I'm heading for more like a invader zim manifest doom kind of look. Also, yes. I did actually want it to make it my signature. Now that I know how, I will do that now! Thanks!

Well... keep practicing then. Get some line arts of Invader zim and learn how the body is structured. Your drawings are extremely flat, or two dimensional. You need to work on upgrading to a three dimensional lay out.

You master that with correct body proportions, perspective, and shading. You might want to try Googling "How to draw Invader Zim style" to help more with those fields.

I don't prescribe to the drawing style of Invader Zim, and I'm not sure if any more of my advise will help you progress with you skills. So, good luck. Keep drawing.

That is pretty much the only nonspecific advise I can give. "Keep drawing". At this point I wouldn't recommend tutorial videos. However I presume you are very young so you have more than enough time to improve.

First of all, linking to an image file in your computer will not work. It always has to be a link to an image file on the internet, like this one: http://derpicdn.net/img/view/2012/11/10/147393.png

Second, practicing is essential, but how to practice is just as important if not more, especially in the beginning. Practicing without knowing what to practice is like walking blind, you may just go in a circle. The first thing I recommend to learn is perspective, so that you can make things look 3-dimensional, whether it's objects or characters. For that, you can go over some online tutorials, or grab a book about it.

By the way, are you over 18? There are helpful art resources that involves nudity, so I just want to make sure before I link you those.

Before perspective I think poses and anatomy should be practiced. But at the same time, may involve nudity.

Pose and anatomy will take quite a while to learn, but seeing things in perspective should be quick. Plus it applies to everything, not just characters.

Well, even if you are not over 18 or don't want to see nudity, this video may be sufficient for you to start working on poses/gestures.

You should try practicing with guidelines. It can get boring when you're not used to it, but it's worth it to be able to make those little adjustments when you're inking. Guidelines also help to keep things even and sized correctly.

Also try using a ruler on the panels. It can do a lot to make things look just a little bit more orderly. But the story looks promising. 8D

Alright, life has been giving lemons and I have been losing some of my drawings (which means I have to redraw them :frown: ) but I did get this shade done.

With the shading, you did good with going from lighter to darker, just remember to keep the lins going in one direction.

Even though this is a video that is centered more on the aspects of anime/manga drawings, I found it to be very helpful in explaining 3 different methods of shading.

Alright my many thanks but I will not always have the same shading. But now with more experience, I will probably do a lot more shading.

What would you call my art style?

Postby WesleyInc » Sun Jun 15, 2014 11:54 am

I have been wondering if I have more of a unique or manga art style. I have been getting mixed answers. :|

You need to calm down with the thread making. You could've just asked in your own thread.

I thought we were limited to one per person.

Also, difficult question to answer. Objectively, I would say: You don't have an art style. Practice comes first. Style comes later.

So out of immense curiousity, what style of art are you trying to go for? Something like Invader Zim, or a more anime/manga look?

I'm heading for more like a invader zim manifest doom kind of look.

Well, you know what actually, I am trying to aim for a invader zim kind of style... but just by getting more practice done... it's more turning out like a unique kind of manga. Almost like a SnK kind of look. I might scan some some pictures to show what it is turning into... but yeah. more of a manga.

If you are feeling depressed there is a therapy thread in spam where people will be more than happy to listen to your concerns.

That's natural and expected. Different expressions of shading reflects texture and light quality. You wouldn't have the same shading in a building as under a tree.

But you do need to have most of your lines going the same direction, that's what I'm getting at.

Art styles evolve. If you want to go Zim, keep practicing on more Zim related material. Personally, I like manga style because I see it as being more free than other styles.

You know I am starting to accept more manga art lately so I will probably go from a mix of the two.

for some reason the URL broke...

That's because you used the wrong tags. You want "quote" tags, not "url" tags. Url tags are meant for Url's, which are links. Quote tags are for quotes. :0
