Is that her tail around her pants?
Great job on this, BTW.

Late night drawing of a hand, started as a practice sketch, but ended up coloring it. Not particularly happy with it a few parts, but it does look like a bit better than previous attempts, at least...

The wrist looks oddly curvy, but other than that this looks great, Ceru. Keep it up.

ooops, forgot to straighten that section out. Thanks for pointing it out c:
I'll try fixing it in the morning and repost. Also Thanks sig, I will
EDIT: So.....I tried fixing it, and this is the result. I tried to fix the nails while I was at it, and made them look weird. Off to practice more stuff I go~

A Strawberry Ice Cream Cone c:
Drew this as a present for a good friend. I really want to do this one over though, I'm not happy with the way the cone came out.
And a Rose!
So proud of myself. A rose is something that I've always wanted to draw/paint, but usually I get so frustrated that I never finish them. So, this go round, I rushed through the drawing (which explains the questionable coloring........). I am pleased (for finishing) and I think that I'm going to attempt this again closer to Valentine's day.
EDIT: I couldn't stand the problems and fixed them....sorta. It's weird because it looked fine when I was on laptop, but then I took a peek at it from my phone, Irealized how much more needed fixing. So here is the new one.
EDiT2: supposed to be slightly different from the top one.... I'll fiddle with it more when I can get to my laptop later today

Paintings are so simple and pretty :3
The swirl and petals are really well done. c:

Thanks! I'm particularly proud of them c:
And two (more) different variations of the top two, not really different, only a lack of a background and new background (these are the last two (of this rose) I promise!)

I'm liking that ice cream! It so fluffy and puffy like it's crafted from clouds.
In fact, your shading's style pretty airy. Like you're take colored clouds and molding it to your will.

Shhhhh......that was supposed to be a secret >.>
pfft no seriously though Thank you so much, I really appreciate it c:
To be honest, I get terrified when I start to shade/highlight, so that's the reason it usually looks like that (I almost always have to go back to add more shade/highlights because I use too little) xD
Wed Feb 05, 2014 8:34 pm
Really? You're drawing on the computer! There should be nothing to be terrified of! Well, except of getting a corrupted file, because that's really terrifying. Losing hours of work all because your save file just decides to go and do itself in.
Anyways, you can try shading and highlighting on a separate layer, so it won't mess up what you have down on a previous layer. And if you like what you got, merge it! Or keep it as it. Or if you really don't like it, hide/delete that layer, make another one and try again! Experiment!

I guess terrified was a bit too strong of a word, it's more like, I'm extremely nervous. I'm self taught, so I end up a nervous wreck while I'm drawing, and shading/highlighting are usually pretty difficult for me (confidence issues and general impatience at not being to draw the ideas I come up with also play a huge part in the nervousness). I like layers, but it took me a loooong time to actually get used to them (when I started digitally, my first app didn't have layers available, and I swapped that one for a different one a few months ago). It's so easy to forget to switch over to a different layer, and usually I end up painting the whole thing (shading and all) on one layer, despite having one set aside for shading. Habits are pretty hard to break, haha.
But, the good thing is that I'm getting more comfortable with using them now! In fact, I used layers for both drawings up there. For the ice cream, I only separated the swirl from the cone using 2 layers. But for the rose, I had a layer for each individual petal on that rose up there. Then added the highlights via another layer. There were a lot of them....but I did manage to remember to switch when I needed to fix a different petal. It's a work in progress, but I'll get there one day! and I definitely won't stop experimenting, so thanks (for the tips and encouragement) c:

And, a new painting. It's been a while since I last painted a full drawing.....In any case, I was inspired by that "Do you want to see the Moon Rise" video that involves Luna and Celestia's relationship. So afterward, I started to think about songs that would probably fit the situation after the "incident". And I feel that Talking to the Moon (by Bruno Mars) probably fits that the best (though a few of the lyrics would have to be changed to fit perfectly). So here are my finished works! I did two, because I really wanted to have that transparent Celestia in the background, but I liked how the one without it came out. Enjoy!

Fantastic work Cerulean. This came out looking great, I love the colors and you've got a pretty goo pose there. Well done.
Thu Feb 13, 2014 5:36 am
I really appreciate it, the pose was really hard for me to figure out. I realized a bit later that I may have moved her leg too high, so I tried fixing it, just to be on the safe side. Though now it sort of looks like her left leg may be too short, hmm....

Celestia! My favorite pony princess! I just saw this on Deviantart moments ago, I gotta try and find you now!
Fri Feb 14, 2014 2:31 am
So pretty! I like the sparkly night sky and the shiny glitter in her mane. The whole image also feels very painterly.

Thanks guys, it means a lot

I think I'm on a roll c:
Happy Valentine's Day!!! (and apologies for the sort of wonky shell :c )

Pearl in a shell? Looks good. Well done, Ceru.

About the shading, you should go even darker. I notice that you use mostly very bright colors. If you are to apply a black and white filter, the colors you use will fall into the White - 50% gray range. Without using the other half, 50% gray - Black, your pictures won't have enough contrast for things to stand out. For example, that pearl almost blends into the upper half of the shell. The pearl itself also needs a bigger range of values for the "shine" to be more noticeable.
Let me just make a quick example:
(that shine I made is far from enough contrast, but it's just a sample, so...)
Same goes for the rose. Those nooks between the petals? Make them darker. Night scene? Also darker.
One thing to note though, avoid using pure black and pure white. Pure white is only for "shine" on really shiny things such as metal or eyes. Pure black... I can't think of any use for it. Dark alley at night maybe.

@Sig Thanks, it means a lot c:
@Grieffon Thank you very much for the feedback, I really appreciate it. It's one of the things that I'm trying to improve, and these tips will definitely help.
