Re: Hiroko's Art Thread - Aki Chichester (07/16/13)

@Randori: Yep, he's a guy. He's also a bit eccentric/insane, and has a thing for Victorian Era and Baroque fashion. He's also kind of a prick, and he's best friends with a villain character of mine who's also a prick, so pfft. XD; Anyway, thanks!

@Sigment Kurosai: Thanks! ...I find it funny that two people have compared him to a band member of some sort. xD;

That looks really good, I'm quite a fan of your clothing design.

Mrm...last time I updated was on 07/16/13. :x To be honest, I've been in a pretty bad art rut for the past several months...;

I don't really have a complete picture (that I'm proud enough to show, anyway), but I do have this WIP of a sketch I did earlier today during my Art History class that I actually liked, for once. Maybe I'm steadily getting out of my art rut? I hope so, because it really sucks not being able to draw, or, more frighteningly enough, not being able to find joy in drawing. >_>;

Anyway, here's the sketch in progress. It's of one of my characters, "Kurokage Shuriken." He happens to be the father of the character in my avatar, actually (who is, of course, another character of mine), and as the name and art imply, he's something of a ninja. I have a couple of AU's with him, but he's either an anthropomorphic wolf in one, or a wolf demon in another. Or, just human, as the case might be in some AU's where he doesn't have those ears and currently-not-fully-drawn-in tail (and where he might go with the slightly more normal-sounding name of "Kurokage Saito").

Maybe (hopefully?) I'll finish this.

Man, I know that feeling. Personally, I still enjoy drawing, I just never get around to making anything serious. Can't summon the energy to finish anything. You just gotta hang in there, I guess.

Your drawing looks really good, though. Nice, dynamic pose. If I had to criticize anything, I'd say the clothes are a bit plain so far. They could use some more details and creases and such. But it looks like you're already working on that.

"Black shadow", huh? Nice name. Love the art too. I'm a sucker for kunai.

Wow I like this a lot. Is that a scarf behind him? Or is that just the flow of wind from the swoop of his hand?

Also, is the character in your avatar part wolf?

Yeah, I suppose so... :c

Anyway, thanks, Vegedus. And yeah, the creases are still being worked on. I still need to figure out what to so with the sleeves, since they're supposed to be a little more loose than how it looks right now--although that's because, much like what I did with the legs, I was drawing out the arms first before sketching the clothes that should go over it. My problem, though, is that then I get a little too attached to how the limbs look during the process, so pfft.

Thanks! And yeah, that's a scarf behind him. It's just kinda sketchy at the moment because I haven't finished.

And yes: in most versions where he isn't human, the character in my avatar (Kurokage Shuriken Jr., or "Junior" and occasionally nicknamed "Junie") is part wolf. In a couple of AU's, he's half angel and half wolf demon, as his mother, Whispers Caldwell, is an angel in those AU's. In AU's where everyone is just an anthropomorphic animal of some kind, Whispers is a cat, which makes Junior part cat and part wolf in those AU's.

Funny thing to note: in most AU's, regardless of species, and if the world they live in is basically Earth "but different," Kurokage is Japanese and Whispers is Canadian, which makes Junior Japanese-Canadian.

And obviously I play around with alternate universes a bit too much, to the point where I dunno what is official anymore and what's just for fun. Whoops. :u

Kunai knife? Check!
Cool scarf? Check!
Awesome outfit? Check!
Great anime-isc hair? Check!
Yup, this one awesome drawing of a ninja.

Oooooooh, I love the pose in that last one!

I've been wanting to get into drawing anthropomorphic characters... you can do fun stuff with that.

Lol, thanks, Randori.

@Asmo: Thanks! I'm happy about the pose myself. I don't do enough dynamic poses, so I was sorta experimenting a little here.

I think it would be neat to see some anthropomorphic characters from you, Asmo, given the style you have. Would be pretty cool to see what you could come up with.

I've been playing Persona 4 Arena every now and then, and this guy reminds me a fair bit of Yosuke in there. That guy's as close as the Persona series ever got to having a ninja.

Really?
I keep hearing about Persona, but I don't really know much about it at all.

Ah...so I guess it's mostly the use of kunai that reminds you of him, huh?

Pretty much, yeah. That and his stance.

December 2nd is Kurokage's birthday, so I always feel obligated to draw up something for that, at least.
Even though I should really be working on other things...ssss.... *sighs*

Not particularly, no. He's also not very fond of his birthday.

He's currently wondering how and why they got him such a huge cake.

Bah, perhaps.

Either that or someone is planning on sneaking up behind him and shoving him into the whole cake. That'd make for an interesting birthday prank.

Re: Hiroko's Art Thread - Aki and Louie (12/31/13)

Tue Dec 31, 2013 11:47 pm

Last two drawings of the year, for the most part. Both are Christmas drawings I did for a friend of mine--but she just got them in the mail yesterday, hence why I waited until now to post them, since I wanted her to see the physical drawings first before the scans went up on my dA.

Anywho...first is a drawing of her character, Aki Chichester, wearing an outfit she put together on Gaia Online before.
I think this is probably the most feminine I've ever seen him, it's almost jarring to remember that he used to dress more like a traditional guy before.

Anyway...this drawing was actually quite the struggle to perfect. Took me months and several failed drawings (a total of...four or five, I believe?) until I could get it the way I wanted it to. I'm glad I was able to get it done and colored in time, since I was still working on this up until the last minute. TuT;;;

Image

Up next is a little doodle of my friend's other character, Louie Blauvelt, who is a vampire and a head butler of Aki's.
I did this inside a handmade card for my friend at the last second, after also struggling for months to draw him. Figures that I would manage to finally draw him...as a sketch, in a card, when I had intended on making a fully-colored drawing of him, too. But ah well...;

Annnd that's about it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years, everyone!
