It did, but luckily I had friends and family who came and saw me regularly and the nurses were pretty nice in a lot of ways.
Anyways, yes, managed to do two pages today.
Also hope this counts as a treat, but managed to do an alternative cover for Pride and Feminism. Reason why is because I'm right now just coming up with more ideas for a comic. I've had to drop Shattered realms, one I lost a lot of momentum due to the cancer. Two, I was hoping my style would stay consistent, as in avoid having these noticeable sudden improvements/changes. Three, was not satisfied with the art. I thought my art had gotten a lot better, but wasn't good enough to make me pleased. Hence I'll wait until I re-do Shattered Realms, maybe as a comic again, great if I could find another artist, but that can be difficult, but may even end up doing it as another format.
Also using this an exercise to examine my work to look for consistent strengths and weaknesses that I'm sharing so yes, first one I'll be showing for today is Dignity and Feminism.Summary:
Dignity and Feminism takes place in a similar reality only Pro-wrestling is real and nasty. It revolves around the female pro-wrestling named Elsandra. After she mistakenly throws an insult to her General manager boss Henry Frodrick, she is humiliated and punished brutally. In an obscene act of defiance though, Elsandra returns to work. Seen as martyr and voice to all victims of abuse, Elsandra is thrust a midcard wrestler, into a main event and one of the biggest role-models amongst the company.
With Frodrick still as the General manager, but only barely, he attempts to make Elsandra regret where she is, but with the help of her friends Elsandra will see to it that you can be a bully no matter how big you are.Themes:
The story obviously tries to tackle the ideas of abused victims. It's also sick to imagine, but you hopefully peeps know about those who think victims treated as heroes are just milking the attention they get, yeah I hate those people with mindset (Yes I do know there are such things as victims who do that, but I'm more sickened by the peeps who think every victims like that). So that's one thing that drove this story was challenging that (Though the prose story is about only 40% it was going to focus a lot more on this idea). Besides that it also involves some of the other cliche sports (Or sport entertainment if you prefer
) themes like honour, friendship and winning as well as themes you see on WWE. But it more focuses about victims (Besides the idea of them being treated as heroes). Strengths:
It's an easy and very simple story. It's perhaps my biggest idea not involving any fantasy/sci-fi (Besides people jumping off from the turnbuckle to want hurt each other and fighting inside steel cages) meaning there is almost no explaining needed. It was also just really fun writing my own Wrestling world like you see on WWE, only a few people read the story, but they got the vibe and that's pretty rare to capture that considering we all know what WWE is like (Even if you don't watch it) and I think it portrayed the women really well without ill-flattering them.
Problem was that it took part in a pro-wrestling world, I think that's its biggest weakness is that I tried to make it so much like it that it shared the problems that Pro-wrestling drama has that only pro-wrestling can get away with. For one there's the head scratching things like why no one calls the police when one wrestler's vandalizing property or why they leave baseball bats lying around for them to use on each other. Also just the silly and ludicrous characters that you'd have to imagine what they'd be like on the streets. So in a way it's still pretty fantasy/sci-fi. There's also probably the problem it has so many characters because it's trying to explore a pro-wrestling world that during the story I was introducing characters to introduce the variety of wrestlers there was. It's the only real weakness I find with the idea thus far.
Minimal. This one has the biggest gap between me and I rather get someone else to make it into a comic/manga for me (Not that I'm actually asking anyone to be honest) simply because it would require really good anatomy for me to be satisfied. Already with the artwork up top I'm unsatisfied with the anatomy. I might in a couple of years later, who knows, but for now I think this is the least likely one of me actually doing.
