The other thing I have been working on is, this little animated gif of Lily.
The sprites came from a myrmidon from Fire Emblem but have quite a bit of editing to them. I had to cut some frames because myrmidon are graceful swordsman, who twirl a lot, and I didn't really get that impression from Lily (although I havn't read much of the comic). In any case I don't think the animation is too choppy.
Fun note, originally I thought I could use a berserker:
but then the glaring problem of no shirt and massive amounts of muscle made me wonder why I ever thought this was a good idea.
With all this work on forum skills and animating Lily, I found myself thinking and before I could catch myself I had begun thinking of the game that would encompass all these things.
The game is played in a "forum", represented by a large grid with any number of starting players. The goal of the game is to become a "famous poster", a louse title usually based on your negative or positive rep. The game is (probably) played in turns during which you use your various forum skills to deal "natural events" on the forum (i.e. a troll, a particular argument, both of which can involve other players). At this point the game gathers elements of a turn based tactics fighting game.
As the game progresses you gather rep, and post count, which let you further your skills. Now the major element of the game is threads. Threads are represented as areas on the grid, reflecting how a popular thread or subject will dominate a forum. Once a thread has been started you can spend turns posting in the thread, and if your posts are good the thread will grow and start to dominate the forum.
This where the competitive angle of the game arises. Your trying to become a famous poster, and so is everyone else, but fame is relative meaning that even if you have a lot of fame, if everyone else has just as much your not really standing out.
So lets say two people start the game and player 1 tries to peruse his fame through political commentary and player 2 tries to pursue his fame through MLP fandom. Things go well, everyone deals with the forum's problems. However, it becomes apparent that player 2 has made MLP fandom more popular then player 1 has made political commentary. At this point, MLP fandom begins to dominate the forum and cut into threads devoted to political commentary. Player 1 is lousing fame because the political commentary community doesn't want to talk in a setting overrun by ponies. Player 1 may try to pursue fame in MLP fandom but has spent the whole game bolstering his skills in political commentary, and may even have bad rep within the MLP community after arguing a pro-flight limit agenda in Gilda vs. Pinkie Pie. At this point player 2 has achieved the goal of the game, he is a dominating influence on the forum with his main competitor gone. Now, suggest player 2 wasn't going to make player 1 leave (via some form of cyber bullying). Player 1 can feel free to try and gain fame in MLP fandom or even try to carve out another popular topic on the forum, but this will take time and all the players may choose to just call the game right there. There are no official win conditions but everyone know that player 2 won and he did it by destroying player 1. There in lies the subtlety of the game.
Of course the game doesn't have to played like this. You could also assume the roll of a professional troll and even systematically destroying the forum by inviting all manner of foul creatures. It's a different route with different challenges but in the end you still fame as a horrible person and thereby can still win.
