Thanks Fie.

@BrokenLine: I might give that a go. I'm still new to photoshop, so I haven't worked out a lot of its features yet. I've only just discovered the wonders of the smudge tool! xD

Hmm, I shall certainly have to look into the paint style brushes.

I like what you've done with the hair in those second two.
My recommendation would be similar to BL's,
but the tool I point you to is the pen tool.
The pen tool can take some time to learn,
and it might seem a little bit less artistic and more technical,
but you can get completely smooth lines from it.
No matter what you choose to do though, I wish you luck.

NEW ART WORK

Well, I say new...I did the line art for this a while back, but only just got around to tidying it up, before spending a long time colouring it.

So yes, no pen tool used on this one, and the lines are still shaky (boo). But I am very happy with the way the colouring turned out :3

This is an OC of mine, called Kerra Tyler. I've used her in a couple of RP's, but I never thought to do a drawing of her until now.

Re: Doctress Who's Art thread~~Romana & TABLET~~03/09

Postby Doctress Who » Thu Sep 02, 2010 8:01 pm

Tablet!

So…I GOTS A TABLET. Finally. :D

And wow does it make a difference. Seriously. Hardly any shaky jagged lines like you get with the mouse – huzzah! And it’s freakin faster to draw stuff with it too.

This is the tablet I have. Not the best out there, but by hell is it better than using a mouse (forgive me for using a “google image”, my camera is out of action atm, so yes, it’s not my own photo):

Image

And just to give an idea of how much quicker I can get things done with it…

Full-length character sketch using photoshop and mouse: 5 hours (and still with jagged lines)
Full-length character sketch using photoshop and tablet: 3 hours, at a leisurely pace (Majority of lines smoothed out)

Hell yes.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ __ _ _ __ _ _

Romana II

And without further ado, here is my very first sketch using a tablet. There are still a few lines that need touching up, but by god are the lines smoother than my previous works. (I am so happy with this tablet).

Image

This is Romana II, a Time Lady with an incredibly long scarf. Companion to the Fourth Doctor. (And yes, tis just a rough sketch of her)
She’s also the same lady that’s in my current avatar.

I tried to draw her in a similar style to how I drew the Tenth Doctor on the first page. Her hand is still looking weird, despite how long I spent fixing it, but meh.

Looks much better with the tablet Doc.
Stufflikehearts - He is a Sith Lord. I love Blood Lord :3
Jeffffey - Blood, you look at the information someone says, look over what really happened, and reply in a way that makes them realize what they were really thinking.
Light10s - Blood Lord! Your avatars are becoming more epic. You make me feel like getting on all fours and submitting my loyalty and obedience to you.
Fievel - Numerous campaigns and conquests, countless bodies decaying after the abandonment of victorious battlefields. Such is the life of Blood Lord.
Dusk_Imp - Blood Lord is like a celebrity here. Everything he does is pure awesome. ALL HAIL BLOOD LORD
Doctress Who - Why couldn't there be a Blood Lord in every forum? It would make life so much easier.

Thanks Blordy.

And yes Sam, I'm drawing Charles next. In fact, that image of Romana is actually only part of a bigger sketch I'm working on, with both Romana and Charles :3

Romana got completed much quicker, which is why I decided to post her now, just as a demonstration to show how much the tablet is helping me improve.

Charles will naturally take longer to draw, because I've been practising drawing Romana prior to this - where as Charles is still kind of an 'experiment', shall we say XD

At the moment I've got a very rough base for Charles and I've positioned him in the picture, but I still need to play around with atonomy sizes/positioning, and get it to look more like 'Charles'. Then of course I've got to add the details, and then tidy up the lines.

And once that's all done, I can finally start on colouring :D
But considering how much stuff I've got going on, the whole thing probably won't be finished for another good week or two. But it really depends.

HEllo ~ I am just here to say hi
And sry I didn't get attention of your art thread
I really like the coloring skill you have (it does have gradiant~ that's what makes art important )
And the lines~~ well I'm much the same~~will needs a little of improvement
Like at beginning in Snafu people get used to tell me improving my lines, and I keep practicing on it recently and make it better so I believe you can make it as well

Honestly..... your tablet is much better than mine: my tablet delays my computer so bad XD
Just always look out for my art fourm~~
DONT WANNA BE AlONE IN MY THREAD teehee~

Postby Doctress Who » Sat Oct 16, 2010 1:27 am

BL and sam, sorry for taking so long to get back to you, thanks very much for your comments :3

I've been practising a bit more, but progress has been rather slow this month.
However to show what I've been up to, here's a quick dump:

Sigs

Just last week I learnt how to make forum signatures using photoshop, so I thought, hell, why not have a go at making some to use? I'm going to be using these once Halloween is over.

You can probably tell from the quality which ones were my first 'attempts' and which ones I did once I'd got the hang of it ;D Advice on how to get better is much appreciated.

(Doctor Who and all images used belong to the BBC, I do not own any of the images used and take no credit for them.)

Charles And Romana [WIP - Base colours only]

Here's something I've been working on for sam4books. She did a picture of these two earlier on, so I thought I'd give it a go too ;D

These two characters are in a Roleplay me and Sam4books are in, called 'Lunatic Inc'...although both of them aren't originally from the Lunatic world. Sam's character is a teleporter called Charles from her story 'Chronicles of Rathya', and the character that I play, Romana II, is a Time Lady from the Tv show 'Doctor Who' (Classic series, 1979).
But completely non-canon, they're taking time off from their usual adventures and are working for the same company. And they make quite a duo...

Sam did a picture with them being friendly towards each other, so I thought I'd do one with them arguing :3 Enjoy.

Image

Only line art and base colours at the moment, but I will be working on a full-coloured version. This is not by far the finished article! I'll be posting the completed image as soon as it's done.

If all goes according to plan, well...I don't want to say too much in case I never get around to completing it in the end. But what I will say is that it will be a small little project involving more drawings of Charles and Romana... ;D

Thank you. Come to think of it, I haven't tried out drawing my cat characters yet with my tablet...I should do that. Looking back at those drawings, I think I could do a lot better now :3

Hehe, I know, your tablet is freaking awesome.
I've just got a cheap(ish), middle-of-the-range one, about the size of an A5 piece of paper. But it's heaps better than using a mouse, like I was before :3
