You'll notice that this page looks much cleaner than previous ones... that's because instead of just tracing over the pencil sketches with a pen, I put a sheet of transluscent vellum over it and inked on that. No more pencil lines and smudges!

Happy April Fools day to everyone. I despise this holiday, but I will take this opportunity to show some artwork from the very first incarnarion of the comic. You see, they used to be... hamsters. The series used to be called Hamster X and started out as Hamtaro fanfiction. No joke.

I ran with the idea for a few years before I decided to make them human, partially because no one would have taken them seriously otherwise, but mostly because it was stupid as hell. Plus, the simple-looking hamsters were actually harder to draw than humans... their strange body proportions and lack of neck, hips, or shoulders made it nearly impossible to show them in convincing poses. Note that I'm not showing all of it, just a few pages and drawings.

New picture of Monogurui (from chapter 1). His head on the full-body pic came out completely wrong so please ignore it.

Monogurui isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's not exactly stupid either. He gets riled up easily, however.

Monogurui's never actually killed anyone, and honestly isn't as evil as his demeanor would suggest. He is an alchemist, basing his techniques primarily out of the manipulation of steel. This is also how he controls his steel hand... it's not mechanical.

Monogurui's real name is Peter Lesett. He used to be a thief, but eventually joined Kasukei because it seemed exciting. He was probably an orphan or something, but no one knows for sure. His hobbies include playing the electric guitar, listening to trash metal and punk rock, and apparently baking, which he denies.

I really liked the colored penciling job you did back on these pages. It really made mah day the way you drew the outlines in a darker tone of the color that it was outlining. That shirt on the kid looks friggin awsome. I really get tired of digital art sometimes and this was a refreshing step out of the ordinary.

Unfortunately, there won't be a new page today. To make up for it, I'll show an older picture of Kasukei. Aside from the mask and the wrappings on the arms, not much has changed.

Okay, here is a very sloppy new page. Sorry, my pens are running low on ink. I need to pick up new ones tomorrow.

On another note, I made a few errors in the first three pages of chapter 4. First of all. Dominic Mitsukye (Riser's father) was drawn with blond eyebrows, but a black beard. His eyebrows are supposed to be black. Also, I used the wrong shade of blue for Kurika's hair. It's supposed to be much less vibrant.

There won't be any new pages or pictures today or tomorrow, but there MIGHT be on Sunday. I'm going away for a few days and won't have access to a scanner, but I'll see if there's any older pics I can show that aren't embarassingly bad.

On another note, I'm having some minor trouble with the pacing of the story, as I'm sure some have noticed. There are three major story arcs planned, bridged by several mini-arcs. Honestly, this first one hasn't been planned out too well, which is why sometimes it takes a while to finish a new page. Also, the second arc is the one I have planned out the most, and also the one I'm looking forward to doing the most.
