I know this probably won't make the cut, but how about something like a crossover, featuring to of your favorite character, I dunno if this is the best suggestion but I know the entries would look cool.

That's not too great an idea, because everybody would vote for the coolest looking drawing instead of the one with the most effort or creativity.

Yeah, unfortunately voting for a winner doesn't work so well for just those reasons. I've seen quite a few in my time go so horribly wrong just like that :/
