Yeah that's a pretty accurate description. Although, he isn't happy all the time. And he'll flip the fuck out as easily as he'll listen to wind blow and drone on about how fucking great words are.

...Fixable. But when/if they remember their names, wait, are names even allowed?

Names are the last things we gain about ourselves. Until then we mainly identify ourselves in narration via our codenames. Whisper told me that she picked the codenames (at least some of them) to try and make it so that you couldn't really form a character from them, because that's supposed to be your job.

As for the sake of identifying people, I've thought of using nicknames given to each other, mainly based on appearances for the time being. So Shindig could be "Crybaby" or Frisbee could be "verbophile" etc. etc.

Burnyourhouse is right, your code names are not your names so your character has no idea they are referred to as by Toffee, Cabinet, etc. Names come last. Code names are meant to be used in narration until you do finally name your character. I don't know how Whisper feels about nicknames, but I'd imagine they should be fine. Nicknames, however, should change accordingly with your character's personality and other players will determine your character's nickname for you (much like a real life nickname).
