K. I'll read it then.
This has to be one of my favorite characters I've made so far.
Vaco Malen Blood.Gender:
Lord of the House of Blood.
Commander of the 501st Division.
Unofficial Supreme Commander of Imperial ForcesAge:
Sub Affiliation: Order of the Disciples. 501st Division.Homeworld:
Vaco is a skilled warrior and battle field commander. He has nearly thirty years of combat experience, and isn’t someone to be taken lightly, even by an Undead. Vaco’s formidable power comes from three sources; his armor, his experience, and his mastery over the Predator style of elemental swords.
Predator Style: The Predator Style is a very unorthodox form of elemental sword combat. Instead of using a traditional hand held weapon, it uses arm mounted blades. These blades vary in length and overall composition such as normal swords do. This style of fighting has very little in terms of defense, and relies much more heavily on offensive usage. What defense it does have involves dodging, turning an enemy on to the defensive, and using their enemy’s power against them.
Combat experience: I know thirty years of combat experience is pretty vague, but he’s basically your well experienced solider. He’s fought on several worlds, in nearly every climate, killed countless people, and has yet to lose. He's stayed very fit for as well because of his experience.
Appearance: About the average height of 6 feet, and a toned body from years of warfare. This gives him a look of true authority and intimidation. His face is emotionless and can be described as “chiseled out of stone”, and blue eyes. His hair once was jet black, but is now peppered with grey. He is also unnaturally pale due to the time he spends inside of his armor.
Currently, he is wearing his Assault Armor Mk II with black robes, and a black, red trimmed cloak. These robes and cloaks are symbols of his positions within the Order, and as a Lord of the House of Blood. Starting equipment: Assault Armor MK II
: Vaco’s signature tool is his custom Assault Armor. He’s had it for two decades now. It varies considerably from the standard power armor classes. His armor features an advanced COM system that allows him to communicate to anyone, anywhere on the planet. It also has a unique program installed in it that gives the Lord-Commander the ability to coordinate his troops while fighting. This program is made possible by the neural interface that connects the suit straight to his spinal cord allowing thoughts to become actions. The internal hydraulics system was upgrade as well, increase in the overall speed, strength, and reaction time by about 0.5% over the standard Assault Armor bonus.
The appearance of the suits is nearly as enhanced as its operating systems. The entire armor was painted white to match his division colors. The helmet uses a T-shaped visor design, and the shoulder pads have been designed in layers in similar design to a Roman Centurion’s.
Assault Armor Mark Three: This armor doesn’t exist in Imperial Records, official or unofficial. Project LORICATUS, the group responsible for the development and advance of the Empire’s power armor, determined that further advancement of the Assault Armor Program into the Mark Three Stage would prove too costly. The LORICATUS Board ruled on this unanimously after three failed prototypes and a number of smaller incidents that cost billions in property damage, equipment and personal loss. The Science Division group turned to address the failures in the Mark Two, and push the development of the Semi-Powered Battle Armor, or SPBA.
The remains of the Mark Three Program were storied in a warehouse for further usage on other projects. Three weeks later, the facility reported a level one emergency, a full out attack by unknown hostiles. The enemy took no known casualties, but the facility reported a 40% loss in personnel, and 56% of property damages. The warehouse containing the remains of the Mark Three armor was empty.
The Lord-Commander performed a Black Level Operation against his own Empire in order to have it for himself. So far, no one is aware that he and the Black Hand broke into the complex and stole the armor… In secret, he recruited some of the best civilian scientists he could get his hands on, and used his some of his planet’s funds to complete the armor. All of these transactions where labeled as efforts to introduce the gunship into 501st ranks sooner, and to overhaul the division’s carrier.
CHARACTERISTICS: The Mark Three Armor was designed around the PPC system. Nearly every upgrade done to the armor was for reinforcement of the cannon. PPC stands for Plasma Particle Cannon. The technology is relatively new, and is usually equipped on massive weapon platforms know as SD-7 Tanks, or large space ships. The PPC system is expensive to maintain, difficult to use, and requires a lot of power. So naturally it is located on these types of heavy machines. The SD-7 tank requires stabilizer pads in order to fire. The cannon draws plasma and energy particles though to a collection grid, then through a purification plate to ensure that the best and strongest particles make it through. After that all remaining plasma and energy are formed into a ball between focus emitters and discharged once enough energy has been formed.
The ball is a unique combination, unstable combination of Plasma and high energy, thus giving the ball of energy a blue purple-reddish look with small strands of lighting emanating from the highly pressured core to the focus emitter. There is also a lot of Ionic activity going on at the same time. This Ionic activity gives the PPC a small EMP shockwave upon impact. Further damage depends on the target hit, but with structures and mechanized units, it usually leaves a large hole and a massive explosion.
The ability to fuse a suit of power armor with the PPC system came with a revolutionary new dual fusion core reactor. It can generate enough energy to allow three successful discharges of the cannon, and if forced enough, Vaco can split the ball in half to form two balls or merge two into one… in theory. It’s never been tested to see if the new features will work. Newer additions include upgraded armor plates, hydraulic system, power core, weight balance, longer arm blades, internal systems, and better enforcement.
The rest of the armor has significantly changed from its neutral approach, to a much more hostile, fear-inspiring look. It is still white in color, but also has a silver trim. The helmet still retains its T-shaped visor, but the cheek pieces have been extended and end in points, there is silver trim around the visor, and there is a slight crest that ran along the top to the back of the neck. There is also a slight flare at the end of the neck. The shoulder plates still retain the Roman Centurion look, but instead of ending in a round design, they ended in slanting points. The gauntlets, arms, and legs were another noticeable change. They also shared the spikes, and sharp angles that the rest of the armor should, but these sections used the points for more… lethal purposes. The arms had a short points coming over the elbow, while the legs also matched this at the knees, but were a little bit longer. The gauntlets had small spikes along the knuckles. The Dorsal (the top of your hand) had spikes but curved back towards the arm, making hooks. Over all, the rest of the armor had sharp, angled design to it, with very limited curves. The black robes were better placed inside of the armor, covering below the waist the most and most of the back, but kept the arms and chest free. The black cape also has better fittings along the shoulder plates to allow better manipulation of the garment.
Arm Blades: One the arms (duh). These arm blades were given to him by his mentor. The blades are infused with the element of fire and thus when turned on, they can get pretty hot.
Two USP 45’s: The standard firearm within the 501st. One is located on a leg holster, and the other is in a chest holster. (Three extra clips for each located on the left side of his belt.)
Calhan 500 Magnum: This monster is Vaco’s primary side arm. It’s a six chambered, 12 inch barrel, 500 series revolver. (Located on the right leg holster.)
(Note that the following rounds are for the Magnum, and they are all 50 cal. They are located in a pouch on the right side of his belt)
2 Speed loader clips of FMJ Rounds
2 Speed loader clips of Hollow Point Rounds
1 Speed Loader clip of Explosive Rounds
Small golden locket and chain wrapped around his right fist, contains a photo of Vaco and Her. Two rings are on both sides of the locket.
The Sons of Kings, Healen Mishibi.Personality:
Vaco is cold, brutal, and cunning as a fox. He is little more than a grim man whose sole focus in life is now duty, and guilt. His wife is a very, very personal subject for him, and is something that will haunt him for the rest of his life.
But supposedly, he wasn’t always like this. From those that truly know the Lord-Commander, they say that he was once a kind and noble spirit. He had bound himself long ago to a code of honor that applied to every aspect of his life. In battle, it was said that he would never attack an unarmed opponent, and even gave them a chance to surrender. He treated his enemies with honor and respect on the field, and he never fought dirty. A few reports claimed that he would help carry wounded from battlefields, both his own men, and hostile troops. He treated POWs with kindness and made sure that they were in good secure facilities, safe, and well taken care of. He cared for his troops deeply. More than once he flung himself into the line of fire to save another.
It short, what was he? A natural leader. A kind man who fought for a higher purpose. A general whose only wish was that his men could return home, victorious.
So what happened? How did such a noble sprit become such a hollow shell?
The answer is simple. He died on the same day as his wife did.
He still blames himself… after all this time. Background:
Vaco Malen was born into a small family on freighter fleeing from Gai, a planet that had become a war zone between the Empire and the people there. It is known that the planet did remain loyal to the empire for half a century, but a sudden rebellion tore the planet from De’larin hold. The Empire allowed drop ships to land and loyalist refugees out of the system and to a new planet. Vaco’s parents were just a few of these refugees.
They took shelter on a few planets over the years. His father worked several jobs in the shipping lanes in order to get enough money to send back home. His mother would work at home in order to raise Vaco. They small family was struggling to survive at best. When Vaco was three, the Malen family moved one final time to the planet Quel'Antheus, a planet that had developed a sophisticated system of tribes known as “Families”. There, Vaco’s father got a job at the infamous Blood Estate, home to the Grand Master, and Undead Lord, Del’Throus, of the Blood Family, the most powerful family on Quel'Antheus.
Soon after, the young Vaco got the attention of Del’Throus while playing out in the gardens of the estate. It made the Undead Lord laugh, and he grew to care for the young child. He eventually gave his parents a membership and a high post in the Family. Vaco would from then on work as an apprentice under the Grand Master, and be known as Vaco Malen Blood. From then on, he was emerged within the ideology and the principles of the Disciples of the Order. A zealous group within the Empire, they devote themselves to the Empire and its needs first, everything else is secondary. The Grand Master regarded Vaco as a grandson, and spent much time with him. Teaching him the ways of the Empire, and the arts of battle. He was also taught much in mathematics, sciences, and philosophy.
During the age of eighteen, he was accepted into the Grim Corps, and was very active within the group. The first unit he was enrolled in was the 149th Grim Infantry Battalion of the 208th Division. He quickly rose through the ranks, due to his aggressive nature and ruthlessness in battle. It was during the Invasion of the small planet known as Demetric where he would meet his future wife. Vaco was 20 at the time, and little more that a Grim Corps Sergeant. His unit had been assigned patrol duty of the capital city’s northwestern sector when he saw he walk calmly out of a store. He was so distracted by her that he walked straight into a pole… Which was something that his comrades didn’t let him forget.
It’s unknown how exactly they got into contact with each other after that point. The above story was supplied by a member of Vaco’s squad who witnessed the events that day. It is against regulation to basically “date” when on duty, and Vaco got married to her one week after returning to Quel'Antheus by his adopted grandfather, Del’Throus. After that, she joined the Grim Corps as well and fought alongside Vaco. The relationship overall was very… unusual. Vaco’s wife wasn’t Human, and inter-species marriages were rare. Her species looked considerably more demonic in appearance. She was silent and difficult to understand by some, but to Vaco, she had this odd chaotic beauty around her that just ensnared him.
They were so happy together. He was really the only one that could get her to smile, and she brought out the best in him. When Vaco became an officer, she was allowed to stay with him on the cruisers, and also in the camps. For the next 18 years, the two fought side-by-side in nearly every conflict. They lived a complex life of being a warrior-couple and also having noble duties to attend to within the House of Blood.
Years later, they both received the Assault Armor Award, and nothing could stop them when they worked side-by-side. During the War of the Seventy, a conflict on another world, Vaco proposed t her again right on the field of battle… actually it took three times for that to happen. The first attempt ended with Vaco being blown through a wall by a nearby hit from enemy artillery fire. The second time was interrupted when he knelt onto a landmine, which flung him back several feet. The third attempt was successful, although it was done on a no-man’s land…
Life as Vaco knew it would continue its cycle of war, and peace would continue for the next several years; promotion to Lord, several advancements in rank, and power. One of his greatest achievements in life came from a personal visit from the Hierarch himself while visiting the Grand Master. He congratulated Vaco and his wife on their string of accomplishments, promoted him to Commander and offered him a chance that few have every gotten; permission to construct a full battle division.
After that, Vaco and his wife created the foundations of what would later be known as the 501st. the division would be unique from the others, different, better, stronger. It would be composed of the best men and women of the Grim Corps. Funding and development would come privately instead of from the Imperial coffers. It was soon to be the spear tip of a greater tool. The first official action of Vaco’s division was on the world of Exalia, which they performed brilliantly. While they did fight elsewhere, Exalia would later become a focal point of the division.
Though out life only one thing is certain, and never changes; happiness isn’t forever, and soon the Lord-Commander’s will end. It happened a few months before the Purge on Exalia. The 501st was rerouted to a difficult planet known as Ca’Pur. The Imperial siege of the planet had lasted far too long for the Hierarch’s taste, and has cost the De’larin forces way too much. Four Undead Lords were killed, three divisions suffered extreme loses, one was just obliterated, and two more suffered extensive damage. An Invasion fleet was shattered and the Empire control of only half of the planet, but the enemy was pushed back to a last stronghold (it was most likely due to the lack of resources, and not De’larin action). In invasions past, the planets were usually less or barely equal with De’larin tech. But this was the first time they fought against a foe that matched and excelled in their own weapons, and defiantly the first that had their own Undead-like class of units. The bulk of the 501st was deployed in an attempt to provide some sort of edge to the second offensive strike against the crumbling, yet strong natives. The battle was to take place on a heavily fortified island. The general in charge of the attack planned for heavy bombardment by aircraft, and outlying battleships. The in-orbit cruisers would have been used, but Intel suggested that such weapons would trigger too large of an explosion, and render the planet inhabitable.
Vaco, his men, and the Grim Corps would arrive on the island in troop carriers. From there, they would rush the crippled enemy fortifications, providing room for the heavier Instruments to lay siege on the main compound.
The plan was going well for a while… Unfortunately the Intel for the locations of the enemy emplacements were off, and the heavy bombing didn’t have the effect that they hoped. The Imperial forces slammed straight into a death trap. Vaco didn’t participate in the battle for very long. He eliminated a snipers nest that had a unit of his own pinned down. However, while he was up there, something triggered an explosion. It might have been miscalculated friendly mortar fire, or one of the snipers was wearing a explosives vest. Either way, it had the same effect; the Lord-Commander was thrown far and into a rock face. Despite his armor, the blow was enough to render him unconscious. Unconfirmed reports of Vaco being killed spread like a wild fire. The tale got grander, and more terrible with every passing. The 501st were whipped into a blood frenzy as they received word of their leader. Still though, there was a battle to be fought.
Five hours later, Vaco awoken to what he thought was screaming, and pounding rain. He pushed himself out of the rocks, and to higher ground, his armor was severely battle scared to the point that a few joints couldn’t move properly. The signal cut in more clearly at the top, and it chilled him to his core. His wife was screaming for him. The Commander bolted in her direction as fast as he could, but he was too late to save her. He stumbled upon a ruined bunker, dead natives and dead 501st surrounded it, and inside laid his Queen, the love of his life.
In the end, he was able to hold her and sing softly to her as she died in his arms. Her wounds were too extensive to be moved to a medic, and there was just no time for a medic to reach them. It killed him. There wasn’t a man there anymore, just a shell. Scouts found the Lord-Commander the next morning, still inside the bunker with her lying in his arms. He said nothing to them as he stood up and carried her out; he said nothing as he carefully placed her body on a ship to be taken back to the base: he said nothing as he turned around and walked back to the field… He made sure every single last native of Car’Pur was dead. He entered into such a rage during the next battle that his own troops dared not approach him. The battle would eventually be won, but at a price too heavy for him; his world was dead, and half of the 501st division was lost.
After that, Vaco turned his full attention to his work, seeking freedom or protection from the pain. That lurked inside of him. His division was crippled, and with some hard work, he was able to patch it up within the following months. Relations with his family fell apart as well, he ceased to visit anymore, ceased to talk, or even write.(It wasn’t depression; could it have been rage or fear? Regret that destroyed this?). Even to the Grand Master. But such action was one sided, they still cared for him, but he could see it.
He’s been carrying out the will of the Empire for the last four years, without complaint. He did voice his objections to the plan of having the 501st perform the Purge, but did so anyways in the end. Since the Purge, he’s been where ever the Empire needed him the most, and sharpening the 501st. When not needed, he’s preoccupied with other things…Starting point:
