You merely have yet to fully acquire your "adult" tastes. Discount on rental cars or car insurance or renters insurance or anything in general is always something you prize as an adult that you might have taken for granted as a child.

As a child, you probably had an allowance from your parents. A few dollars a week (half your age in $ for my family) that you could do whatever you want with, as long as you pulled your weight--did your chores, etc. As a child you think of that as the norm and you go with it. As an adult, any chance to save money is a godsend because of all the work you put into getting that money in the first place.

Such is life.
