Curse of the lost-ones: The Dark tide

Humanity has heard whispers of relics of great power dwelling beneath the earths surface, changing the life below into monsters of incredible power to assure the books protection, forever hidden from the eyes of the untrained. An expedition to the underneath was staged by an exploration company paid handsomly by a private party who remained anonymous during the funding stages. A vast fortune was placed infront of the treasure seakers and off they went to the darkness below, 2 score strong and all veterans of the harshness of the world. One returned from the darkness almost six years later, his mind broken and his body was pale from the lack of sunlight, he had stumbled out of the darkness holding a book that seemed no more then a day old and collapsed a few feet from the entrance his men had took, his body still. The book dissapeared without a trace to the people who had paid the man.

The result of this took place again nearly fourty years after the man had crawled out of the cave, something known as the spell-fire wave, a massive wall of blueish magical flames danced across the world changing it in ways mortals could not realize. The spell would be later discovered as 'The unmaking.' A powerful spell that is supposedly powerful enough to destroy everything and anything on our world and the nether beyond only to be reshaped by the main caster as the one true god, he had failed and was stopped before he could finish the spell by sellswords, but the spell went off anyway.

Humanity witnessed destruction unlike any other, but it seemed to be isolated all over the world, some area's were lied to by their rulers saying it was merely a war that had scarred the land so badly. But some knew better. Wildlife has changed and evolution has progressed to unfathomable heights never thought to be seen, sentient creatures have emerged from the animal kingdom and now live in secrecy from the world. The magic still permeating the swamps of the south have Changed inhabitants in strange and powerful ways.

Factions have been raised in the darkness to assure that mortal people do not ever catch wind of the magic that was unleashed lest it try to reoccur. Any with talent for the arcane are kidnapped or killed without hesitation and any who knew of their power. Some have escaped and vowed vengeance for their families, others joined willingly to hopefully revert the damage to the world and learn of it's new and dazzling mysteries that crawl along the isolated surfaces.

In the south, the swamps of Argannor, a former king long since dead, has become a place of plagues and dark magic, held from the sight of mortal men by the lords of the surrounding area who were payed well to keep the secret from their peasants, they themselves know nothing of what happens. Dark inside the swamps a community of various creatures, human and sentient creatures alike, have formed a community know as the Plague breakers, Mage's and alchemists who dabble in anesthetics and poison control vials. All of them have developed an immunity to the poisonous air that constantly permeates the air.

In the east there is a society of elemental beings who after learning of their affiliation with an element were sent to a vast open jungle nestled in a range of tall mountains, unscaleable to all who would try with the very earth itself preventing entrance to the unworthy. A secret tunnel has been carved throug the stream that flows underground, the elementalists command the water to simply dissapear, while air elementals give their substance to allow breathing during the trek. When the walk is done, the water reforms into the crystal clear river it once was.

In the west is those who dabble in the Arcane, all that is created by the weave of life, Summoners, healers, protection artists, illusionary callers, bards of all shades, in a village that to the ordinary eye is no more then a regular prospering city with a lord to rule and a council to make decree's. All an illusion. The city Hover's above this fake town, sustained by the magic of protection artists and the illusionary callers placing potent wards to hide and secure the levitating landscape. Miles wide and extremely prosperous, it serves as a middleground for all with magical influence. This town is known as The Arc.

You are one who has been blessed with a magical power, a power caused by mutation from the spell-fire, warping your body in a way that lay dorment until an experience that unlocked your powers to their fullest potential until they were no longer needed. Soon after your experience with this, a being contacted you with bright white clothing and brilliant gold and silver armor, a hood over their head with an unnatural blackness covering their face. They gave you two options: Come with him or go to the afterlife.

Word has come that the book that caused this all has resurfaced in a human town, and it's potent magic was unleashed by one of the people who escaped the recruiters for the magic world. The town was twisted and destroyed in a matter of minutes, the bodies of the fallen stood up to shamble behind the followers of the dark book. Where they have gone, none can discover, but they are striking Random area's across the world looking for something. For someone. The lords of the great states have asked that any who wish to be rewarded in ways they cant imagine should step forward to be recruited into a growing organization known as 'the brotherhood.' A band of fighters from all states who now fight as the army of the three state's against whatever the darkness beyond is reaching for. You are not alone, countless mages/warriors and priests have stepped forward to answer the call and discover the reasons behind the dark shadow.

Hmm, I have some ideas...just what can I be actually? I'm guessing dark magic users come from the swamp place.

Name: Skulcrack Thanatos.

Type: Was human, now skeleton.

Afilliation: the swamps of Argannor.

age: 27

appearence: Pure Awesomeness He's six foot, six. Quite a slim build, obviously and casts no shadow.

personality: He's mildly crazy and a bit of a comedic sociopath. He is sarcastic and can be a Deadpan snarker as well. He likes to expirement a lot to see what happens, which is partly how he became a skeleton in the first place. He is mildly random and is a bit...childlike, which is often confused with stupidity due to the fact he's mildly perverted as well, this is rarely shown. He likes to have fun and party, he's a joker and can always be relied upon to try anything with a friend, very loyal. He does have...a dark side which shows up on very rare occasions, in which case he'll tend to become more twisted then he normally is and a hell of a lot more powerful. Normally he'll calm down before he gets too...evil, but he may need some help returning to normal if he goes to far, like knocking him out. He is a hard man to keep down too.

weaponry: he has a pair of pistols but normally he prefers to "get up close and see what happens." He'll normally wear knuckle dusters or something if he want's to get serious.

History: He used to be a young police officer who specialised in finding and bringing culprits in. His skills in close combat and his pure toughness got him a 100% capture rate, no-one escaped him but what made his so good was he also took each one of them in alive. He was basically their best bounty hunter which he was perfectly happy with, the pay was good and he got to make the world a better place as well it seemed. Then after a while he noticed that the "culprits" he was taking in didn't always seem to fit the crimes and how others seemed to dissapear from the system He got suspicious of his superiors and he then made the stupid mistake of questioning them and voicing his suspicions, their response was quick and brutal.

He was given a short, brief, state funeral as his family was dead and he'd never been too good at making friends. For a few years he lay in his grave as his flesh and organs slowly rotted away but then something happened, he was suddenly awake. The fact that he awoke in a coffin didn't really help matters either, suffice to say, he was scared, badly. It took him a week to finally escape from his grave which made him very happy indeed, the first thing he did was to ask a nearby family what date was it...There was a lot of screaming. That led to him realising he was a skeleton and to him joining in the wild screaming as well, it's not everyweek you wake up, crawl out of your grave and discover you're a walking skeleton. He spent the next few years hiding in the swamps of Argannor as he didn't need to breath anymore, he hired himself out as a bodyguard for some of the more profitable inhabitants, until he was called.

Because of all of this he has become mildly reckless but since he hasn't been able to die, he doesn't really fear anything much, while he still prefers to run away if he has a choice, take the easiest and normally act like a coward, he can be serious at times.

Powers/talents: Very strong, good at close combat and pretty damn near invincible. No matter what you do to him he can't be killed, he can be trapped, knocked out if hit hard enough and even decapitated, but he will not die. He's tried killing himself a few times when he slumped into a depression but various problems rose such as he couldn't stab, poison or suffocate himself, for obvious reasons. When he deliberatly got himself broken into pieces, he woke up to find himself back together. No other powers or strengths apart from he's a good fighter and he doesn't give up easily. He also has a mild skill at picking locks and has a wide knowledge of unarmed combat, that combined with has amazing ability to use almost anything he can pick up into a weapon. He has been used as a bounty hunter at various times due to his tracking skills and that he would not give u no matter what.

Re: Curse of the lost-ones: The Dark tide OOC

Postby Cheesemore » Sun Dec 13, 2009 6:53 pm

Name: Jack Odin

Type: Human

Affiliation: Eastern Jungle
Elemental affiliation: Electricity/Lightning

Age: 26

Appearance: http://i63.servimg.com/u/f63/11/33/25/98/6th_fi10.jpg Basic look, he stands 5’8, his eyes are blue and rarely puts his hood down.

Personality: Jack is a quiet one, and most of the time generally seems pissed off at everything. His likes are fewer and his dislikes are in fact great. But due to the fact he was in the Eastern Jungle, he’s grown to fully appreciate nature, and dislike humans.

Actually he pretty much hates other humans. Jack feels that animals have a much better feel for the world in general, and they have certain...wisdom to them that human’s lack. After all, animals weren’t the ones who tainted the world, humans were. But he does talk occasionally to most people, and there are a few that he finds reasonable enough to converse with. But it’s only those that he finds selfless and respectful to nature.

Another one of his habits is Jack tends to sleep a lot. No one really knows why, and he doesn’t ever say, then again most people can’t get a lot out of him to begin with. What most people don’t know, is that most of the night he’s actually wide awake. Again, no one knows why he likes to be nocturnal, it’s just better to accept it.

And for those brave souls that decide they want to approach him and try to converse with him, Jack also has this annoying habit of shocking people who get too close to him, so beware everyone.

Weaponry: His magic doesn’t involve a weapon, but he does carry a couple of daggers in his back pockets for those instances that don’t require magic.

Backround : Jack was an orphan, his parents died at a young age so he never had a family to speak of. He grew up in the dense jungles to the east, living in harmony with nature. It was a simple life for him, survival was a daily chore but other than that he pretty much loved it. He was able to experience and appriciate nature to the fullest, wishing it could last forever. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and his all started with the great spell fire.

Jack watched in horror as his beloved home became twisted and corrupt thanks to the magic, It still remains etched into his head to this day. Saddend, he quietly left his seculded home, he couldn't bare to witness the horrible things that befell it.

It wasn't until some time later that Jack noticed his powers. He was walking in an open field during a thunderstorm, desperately trying to find shelter. When he was struck by a bolt of lightning. He thought he was dead for sure, until he opened his eyes that is. He wasn't dying at all, in fact, it felt great. Jack then realized that the spell fire had corrupted him just like his home. He was distraught, was he going to mutate like the other animals? Or even the land itself? Jack didn't know what to do, so he kept walking, looking for some shelter, and some answers.

His travels eventually led him to a town. Jack never being in one before, was awestruck, but at the same time confused. Where were the animals? and the trees and everything else? He saw none, and continued to walk, looking for anything. What he found was just more pain, he watched as the humans took advantage of the land. Cutting the forests down, hunting the weak animals and then just leaving them, or making tropheys out of them. It sicked Jack, it was from that moment on he felt humans were the scurge of the earth, and his deep hatred began.

He continued to live on the outskirts of that town (after all he needed shelter, and he still felt he needed to be close to his own kind, even for a little while.) he frequently visited town for food, but was gone as soon as he came. Jack alwaus payed in gold (never worked, no way to get the real currency) and left as quickly as he came. The villagers began to dread when he came to town, always seemed to mad, and he always had at least one comment to them about treating nature better. It pissed them off.

One day they finally were fed up with him, the villages waited till he came and demanded he never came back. Jack was poised to kill them all, but desided not to. Let their "god" or whoever pass judgement on him, he wouldn't. He began to travel again when he met the stranger. He offered him a propsition, which Jack of course refused, until the man mentioned getting back at those who destroyed and tainted the land. After that, Jack was all for it.

Aquired Powers: Jack's aquired powers require him to use Thunder tokens. THese tokens cannot be seen by the naked eye. A counter is placed on his wrist that determines how many are available to him at any given time. Whenever he gains. loses, or just watns to check his tokens, the number will appear on the inside of his left wrist. He usually covers is with his sleeve as not to let anyone know this limitation on him. He can charge 3 tokens per hour normally, or he can force charge 1/3 of his total tokens every 1/2 hour. But he will not be able to charge normally again for another hour.

Static shield: Jack keeps a constant stream of electricity around his body, it's low powered, but he can enhance it to make muscles spasm whenever an opponent decided to hit him with his bare hands (or just give a really good shock). Requires 5 tokens to use once.

Electric current: Jack mainly uses his fist for battle so as such, that electic current around his body comes in very handy while fighting, if he makes contact with an opponent his can paralyze that part of the body for a short period of time. Jack could also steal some electricity from his opponent, but he must touch his bare skin to theirs and he can't paralyze them at the same time. A constant three tokens per hour, or he can center the area for 5 tokens at once.

Desperate power: Jack can jolt his heart, giving a powerful onslaught of adrenaline-based attacks, rapidly increasing attack speed and pure damage. However, it is a desperation, and requires has huge side effects afterwords. Requires 10 tokens to use.

Static Bolt: By charging the air around him, he can create and fire a bolt of electricity to a target. Strength and speed of attack depends on how long he charges. The attack is incredibly fast, though it does tend to have an annoying habit of hitting metal instead of the intended target (still not good if the enemy is holding something metalic though.) The amount to use this varies by the time he uses to charge. The Rate is about 2 tokens per second of charging.

Odin's Hammer: Jack's most powerful attack. He can guide a bolt of lightning to strike on person on command. He can only fire it once in a 24 hour span, as it requires a huge amount of magic to use it. It can also only be done when there is a good chance of lightning in the sky, he cannot simply create lightning out of thin air. No tokens are required, but he loses his ability to preform magic for a half an hour after use, and he cannot use this technique more than once in a 24 hour period. (If he does, he falls into a coma for days.)

Both seem very off. You were once human, so you would have a human sounding name.

And being 112 when the spellfire happened very recently is farfetched to say the least.

CS

Name: ??? (Sentus Eithar)

Type: Arcane Armor (Bound Soul)

Affiliation: He was spawned in the West.

Age: 4 (28)

Appearance: This and That are what he looks like essentially. The armor is more gun metal in color. The black portions would essentially be mesh and it wields a second sword in the free hand. The wings are made of a lighter metallic alloy, and they double as something of a metallic feathered cloak. He has free range of motion with the wings and no halo either. While it can fly, the wings play no part in its flight, but they are strong and very sharp. The eyes though empty seem to stare into the soul as you peer into a seemingly endless void. It's clearly a product of arcane magic and as such the armor carries a faint glow and carries a strong presence as if it compels you to look at it. He blends in like a strange piece of decoration in the floating city.

Personality: He doesn't really have one to speak of. He's a blank soul, an entity created solely for the whims of whomever summoned it. It's more the strong silent type, but speech is within the limits of its abilities. This armor has dreams, images and scenes of a past life before it was bound to the armor. It's seen the destruction the spell-fire caused, the same that made its very existence possible. It has no real morals or ethics, but if the spell-fire were to be used once more, it could do that again, and the blades it wields could help stop that from happening to anyone else. It is aware of what it is as a summoned suit of armor and its existence as a living soul, but that's about it besides the dreams.

Weaponry: Two large single edged blades. They most resemble the Chinese Broadsword. What would normally be a two handed blade for a man could easily be wielded single handed by him. The blades are curved and have black runic patterns running along the full length of the blades. As with the armor itself, the blades also carry a faint glow.

History: The mage that summoned it had a friend that was killed in the spell-fire's destruction, but instead of dieing like his friend the other guy was changed in the fire. Soon there after he came in-touch with the arcane. A small rush of foreign knowledge invaded his mind and he could feel a powerful magical force at his back. He couldn't imagine such power and the means to some what use it. The mage summoned the armor in his grief over the friend he lost, and his longing for his fallen companion to return to him. The summoning does however require a freshly liberated human soul. The mage's friend's soul was the one used in summoning the armor, and as such, it's his soul that dwells with in it. The memories of the soul never truly fade, even after the summoning wipes it clean. This ensures that the summoned entity obeys the summoner. The summoner is unaware of this however. It resides in the Arc with the mages. Soon after the summoning as a result of unlocking his full potential, he was visited by the being. When asked if he would go with the brilliantly armored being, the mage chose the afterlife to be with his fallen friend, but little did he know the friend's soul was now in the armor. This left the armor without a master to command it. When asked to choose, it had no interest in going on to the afterlife, so it went with the hooded, armor clad being instead.

Abilities: As stated earlier, the armor has the gifts of speech and flight. Besides walking, it gets around by hovering and high speed flight. The armor is quite durable and doesn't feel pain, fatigue, or hunger. As summoned armor, its main purpose is combat, and it was meant to protect the one who summoned it. It's quite adept at sword play and duel wielding combat. The metal composing the armor is rather light, making it overall much faster than one might expect upon first glance. The armor's quickness and speed comes with a price. The armor can be knocked around in combat when defending against a strong offensive force. While no where near impenetrable, the armor is very hard, unnaturally strong, and warm to the touch. As magical in nature, the armor has some degree of resistance from magical forces. It's still susceptible to magic, but a spell cast on it will have a diminished effect on the armor. If a piece of the armor is broken or shattered in combat, the area will mend itself in time. The armor's process of repairing itself can be greatly accelerated by an arcane mage, and as the weapons were summoned with it, they are apart of it, and self repairing as well. When in combat, the runes along the blades shine brightly and the blades begin to radiate an intense heat.

The idea of advanced weaponry is plausible, so old-fashioned guns are around but scarce.

History isnt important since all I need to know about your character is the event that awakened your gifts.
Maybe even where.

Anything you feel I've left out on the CS, your all more then welcome to add.

Okay, just one more question, what..century is this in, I was going to make him a cop in his history but there's no point if it's not the 21st century or something recent like that.
