Suggested Feature: Dice roller

Postby Vegedus » Mon Dec 09, 2013 9:08 am

Something we could use in the RP forum. An integrated dice roller. Rolling them on other sites is super annoying. It's not a super important feature, but there are already plugins out there for PHPBB, so it should be easy to do. Notably, the rolls would have to be permanent (no rerolls in the same post) and public for it to be useful.

I'm curious about the public part. Would they show on the post?

Dunno how it would work, but I figure some modder somewhere came up with a good solution.

I've seen that on both Gaia Online and on Ernya. This is how they utilize dice rollers:

For Gaia Online:

For Ernya:

In that last image, you have to hover your cursor over the "Dice Roll!" in order to see the results, whereas on Gaia, the results are just plastered onto the top of your post for all to see. And neither site gives you the option to go back and change the post option after posting. You can edit everything in your post, but you can't change the dice roll results or attempt to re-roll.

I believe Ernya uses HTML, though. I'm not sure what Gaia Online uses.
But yeah, that's how those two sites have 'em. Hope that helps a little?

I pretty much only find abandoned mods for this.
However, I will look into making them work.
But I will need to do a lot of testing on my own forums first.

Huh, I've looked into various ways of randomizing via the post itself, but didn't find any solution that couldn't be gamed. Post numbers here are probably more predictable than those on 4chan, but it could work. How do you see the post number, though?
