You say that because the show is anime styled. But there can be anime styled comics. If the artist was the girl who drew the characters to begin with that it would still look great. Think about how much importance is placed on colours in the series, a black and white comic just wouldn't make sense.

If you ask me I don't see much color put into it, at least for the settings the series takes place in.

Of course I concur with anime style comics (would be wonderful to have more of these really, but in RWBY's case an artist will truly make the world of RWBY stand out better) but also this part of your post got my attention:
a black and white comic just wouldn't make sense.

I don't know what to say about that, most manga has been printed in black and white for a long time except for a few such as Colorful, and the first few pages of a copy of Haruhi Suzumiya I found the other day. So I'm just curious though, what are you saying?

Also looking up the Colorful Manga might yield you a bunch of hentai pages from the Colorful Harvest manga on Google Images, word of warning before you start looking.

You don't see much colour put into it? Red White Black Yellow Forgive me for saying so but you must not be looking very hard

...........assume, just for a moment, that I know what manga is. I just meant that a RWBY comic that is actually red, white, black and yellow, would look better than a RWBY comic that is grey, grey, grey and grey

Red White Black Yellow is four colors, which still isn't much. Okay, I don't want to make sound like I'm arguing over colors, that would be ridiculous.

But hey, a comic that's actually the colors of RWBY sounds interesting though. Like they could have a chapter focus on one specific member of the four (say Ruby Rose) and make the entire chapter shades of red. For Weiss, they could use very light shades of Ice to represent snow, and pure black ink for Blake.

In a way it kind of brings out their character in that they somewhat make the reader see how the characters look at their world in the form of these shades. HECK, shades of Ice can symbolize how cold (no pun intended) Weiss's outlook of the world is, and for Blake, it represents her dark and somewhat pessimistic perspective towards her environment.

And while we're talking about it, we might as well think about what colors could represent members of JNPR and CRDNL.

I did not mean only using four colours in some artsy way. I just meant being able to see them in colour would look better than everyone being grey.

I assume that you mean, rather than espousing a judgement as to whether comics pwn manga, that a color comic makes more sense for a series based so strongly on colors.

After all, comics are not superior to manga. Admittedly, I never much liked the idea of black and white comics when I first heard of manga, but now I prefer them to actual comics (except when the comics are released as a collection like as a hardback... those I'll read).

The figurines they're releasing give me hope they may actually develop a game. Admittedly, it's a far cry from one t'other but I didn't even fathom that they're merchandise'd stretch beyond shirts and mugs. I may just have to buy those figures to, although I hope they make figures for all of the characters, particularly Sun and Penny.
I just love how people put commas, in places they so obviously, do not belong.

I don't know about you, but I love the Young Justice animated series.

Maybe it will look better when Monty draws it himself.

Monty can't draw. But I agree, it might look better when animated. He obviously thought so.

I thought when I saw a more to scale version (i.e. what it would like on the animated Velvet) I would better accepting. But I've seen this one on deviantArt, while it is interesting, it was not one of my favorites. However, each team has differing styles. RWBY/JNPR are fairly casual (if you accept that for someone like Weiss, a formal dress would reach past her knees) while CRDL is fully armored. It's possible Velvet's new design will lend itself to her team's overall look and feel.

Here ya go guys, this here's our winner's contest entry. Got to say, the way her design is drawn here at the previous image is probably what's making me feel bleh about it, but looking at the design entry here makes me feel a little bit more faithful, although they are quite flat (my number 1 gripe about the winning design, though the simplicity makes up for it, and I agree with Monty Oum's views towards the design's potential functionality as casual clothing.)

Other than that, I think Velvet's suit design looks more interesting now, so I can't wait to see the animation process. With the leg bandage gone as well, I think this winning design looks much more fitting for the RWBY universe, and the first thought I had when I look at it happened to be the image of a bunny! She looks as if she might actually have quite a bounce to her chest step!

Also the lower body design reminded me of this:

Image

Munnkie's design is the first time I've seen a character with a design like this individual in years. This is the prototype character of Kyo Kusanagi from the King of Fighters series. His name is Syo Kirishima, and in the games, he known to be a usable striker in the King of Fighters '99. Being more of a fan of Syo Kirishima than Kyo Kusanagi I think Munnkie's design will eventually grow on me.

But now all of this leaves one question: what about Velvet's weapon?

Wrong. It will be a staff or wand of some kind. It was already said by Monty when the competition started.

You disappoint me guys. :(

But anyways, Monty is more creative when it comes with developing a...thingy...for characters.
