So, my thoughts after the last episode of the season...

There was a point at which I felt like the plot devices were too heavily used. Like the mask falling off of Aang's statue. And the plot twist with amon's origins felt a bit stretched at first. Then, the happy ending, I expected that so it didn't sting so bad. The part that made me really like it was the scene of Amon and Tarrlok on the motorboat. That seemed oddly fitting.

Just finished the season finale. Oh my god! When I saw Tarlok and Amon in the boat and Tarlok started looking at the equipment I was like "Do the right thing." then they blow up...

I thought what Tarlok did at the end was a very badass way to take out Amon....I was thinking during the episode that Family should deal with their own bad seeds.

It was kind of obvious korra would get her bending back once she entered the avatar state considering aang just shrugged off blood bending's effects when he got attacked w/it. see here I pretty much knew that once korra gained access to the avatar state she'd shrug it off too.

I never knew the avatar could give bending back though. . .

Most of the episode was surprising to me. I guess we'll never know exactly how Amon did it. Apparently the previous Avatar can energy bend and even unlock the Avatar state for the current Avatar? Because in the original series:
- The previous Avatars need a physical body to manifest themselves in order to bend
- To achieve the Avatar state, one must get rid of fear, guilt, shame, grief, lies, illusion and earthly attachments, and I think Korra still has all of those.

I wonder how they would make a villain that can pose a threat to Korra in terms of power, now that she has the Avatar state and energy bending at her disposal.

Bumi really lives up to his name. And also does anyone feel bad for Asami? She lost the only 2 persons she loves.

Actually Grieffon those were the requirements to master the avatar state and use it at will. Oh and I love how General Iroh is the same voice actor that did Zuko, I was like lol, lazy bastards.

I prefer to think of it as ONE WAY the Avatar can master the Avatar State. Possibly the easiest way, but likely not the only way. The Guru taught him that way because it is the way he knows. Korra, after all, isn't the only Avatar to have retained earthly attachments. Aang of course did. So did Roku, who was, after all married himself (and I will point out, seemed to have no trouble entering the Avatar state at will and more importantly exiting it at will) and the previos Water Avatar, ( if he had no earthly attachments anymore, it is unlikey that Koh taking his beloved would have mattered to him as much as it apparantly did. And he very clearly still feels guilt about it) Given the speech that Aang recieved from the previos Air Avatar, there is even a slight possibility that the Guru made a mistake in his belief that his way was the right way for an Avatar (not Avatar Aang, any Avatar) to achieve mastery of the state. Her words seem to imply (at least to me) that, as the Avatar is part of the world, freeing him or herself from earthly attachments may actually be impossible.

This is the best I can do, re-doing a quote is one of the few things edit seems unable to do.

Addionally, I realized that the "earthly attachment" argument actually works 4/4 for the last couple of avatars, not 3/4. I had forgotten that Kyoshi was also married (or, at least, she had a child, Koko) She might have been the least emotionally involved of any of them (okay let's just say, the least compassionate and merciful) but it does take some degree of caring about the world to demand justice for it (actually, that may be another good reason the Avatar can't actually use the method the Guru described; if they did free themselves from all earthly attachments, they'd cease caring what happend to anyone in the world, and they'd simply let it fall to ruin)
