Aang had this filler episode that explained how the high...court...something of the Air Nation determined he was the Avatar from the toys he played with when he was little. Weird, but I can go with that.

Yeah, Maru just explained what I was talking about in my previous post.

@Alo: Yeah! She's reminding me of Avatar Kyoshi with the training of metal benders. They remind me of the Dai Li.

It really is tough how Aang started out as a little 112 year old boy who plays a lot, likes animals and now he's famous and has a big statue of himself as the size of the statue of Liberty :!:

Am I the only one slightly worried about casting Janet Varney as Korra? I mean I'm sure she'll be okay but she doesn't have much VA experience.

Another thing I don't get is the official logo for the show. Considering this show is all about the advancements made since the last series, the logo looks pretty ancient to me.

Does anyone else think it slightly odd that, in the trailer, Korra seems to favor firebending over water? According to the cycle, that element should be the last one she learned, before Air.

I think it might be an indication of her character, and her character arc. Favoring firebending over her native, opposite element implies both aggression and a rebellious attitude, perhaps an appetite for destruction, as well.

Aang's character arc was about him learning to deal with his responsibility as the Avatar, but he was always the kind of person whose morals and empathy that would ensure that he do it well. I think Korra might be the opposite: being emotionally sturdy enough to handle the Avatar's responsibilities, but having inherent character flaws that make her a bad candidate for the job.

Any thoughts?
I believe that if you don't have anything new or meaningful to contribute, you shouldn't try. This is why I rarely speak out here. But trust me, I'm always lurking. Always.

Well Mike and Bryan made Korra to be the specific opposite of Aang, so that may be the case.

#1 There is no correct pattern to learn the elements.

#2 Apparently Korra mastered/learned how to fire bend at a young age.

So, basically, Korra is a BAMF.

Stufflikehearts wrote:#1 There is no correct pattern to learn the elements.

That's true. But It has been said in the series, that an Avatar who was born an Airbender has it hardest to learn Earthbending and vice versa. And that an Avatar born Waterbender has the toughest time learning Firebending and vice versa.

Fire-Water and Air-Earth are opposites in this setting.

But yeah, it's personality based too, when Aang first tried to learn Firebending from Jeong Jeong he fucked up pretty immensely.
Azure Harbinger wrote: opposite element implies both aggression and a rebellious attitude

That's a very dumb interpretation, in my opinion. If anything the first series beat as over the head that to learn Firebending the most important factor is discipline. After all, Aang burned Katara because he lacked that and Jeong Jeong constantly told him that control is the most important factor of a Firebender.

Then we have the fact that the Fire Nation was a country focusing on the military(what other profession requires as much discipline, as being a soldier?).

Add to that Zuko, Iroh and Azula were all incredibly responsible and duty focused characters. Sure Azula in an "evil" way, but she had incredible self-discipline and was a perfectionist.

So if anything, Korra mastering Firebending easier would imply she is more responsible and less rebellious than Aang was.
