Well, I like to cartoon, anime/manga type drawings I guess. I've seen a variety of artists and want to have a style of my own. I finally have the time, I'm just having trouble on how and where to start. It looks fun to draw what's in your mind come to life, and that's what I like to do, draw what's in my head, but I'm not good at it, so I need practice

Well there are really no tips or lessons that make make it so you learn how to draw. The only way to learn how to do it is by doing. Doing it for hours every day for years. Drawing from observation is a really useful skill and helps exercise multiple skills all at once.

ULTRADJ wrote:No, I'm learning how to draw, or at least trying to. I have a long ways to go before I have an art thread, I'm just looking for places to see if I can teach myself the basics and work from there. Any thing help really, I need as much practice I can get. All I can do for now is write. Sorry for misleading anyone, I didn't mean to, I meant I need practice from anywhere, the basics and stuff. From paper and computer, but paper first. If anyone knows where I can get help to draw, please tell, it seems fun to draw. I'm sorry everyone, I blame my lack on how to word things correctly.

I was in the same boat Ultra, but I ended up going overboard and just quitting. Meh, I lost ambition and mildly despised my work plus I lack enough creativity to do much of anything original so I felt drawing as being a bit pointless. I'd like to see how far you've gone though, and hopefully you can stick with it longer than me man.

@Ultra: If you want to learn how to draw in the anime/manga style, I highly recommend watching Mark Crilley's YouTube videos.

Don't get frustrated with you attempts though, everyone learns their own style.

Ah, sorry. xD Yes, the of course was directed towards you, Sigment.

Oh!Well, drawing can be fun, yes. :3 I really want to go somewhere with my own drawings because I feel really confident in my style. I have my own gallery on dA, linked in my signature.

@Sigment Sure, I would love to see your art!

Allow me clear up a misunderstanding.

Being original is something that is impossible for beginners, because it requires experience. "Imagination" is not creating something out of nothing. Can you imagine a color outside the visible spectrum? Of course not. Imagination is the process of combining and altering what you already know. For example: a dragon is just a dinosaur with its proportions altered, and combined with the wings of a bat, both animals being ones humans already know. To be able to draw something, you must already know what it looks like.

Now, you may ask that why you can't draw a car for example, if you know what a car looks like. The answer is, you don't know what a car really looks like. To quickly identify objects, the brain create "symbols" for them. Whatever objects that fit the general symbol will be recognized as what that symbol represents. For example, this would be the symbol for a car:

Image

When you see anything that can fit into that generic image, your brain will call it a car. This is easy to see when you ask a kid to draw a car: the symbol is likely what they will draw. Which is also why a car like this strike you as weird, because it doesn't quite fit into the car symbol.

To draw though, a symbol is not enough. The only way for you to know what a car really looks like is to draw from looking at a real car, or a photo of a real car. Draw from what you see, and observe carefully all the features of the car. Keep drawing cars, from different angles, and different cars, and eventually, you can draw a realistic car from just your memory and imagination:

Image

With that said, the car is still a very complex object. If you want to draw every details on the car, you probably still need references. But unless you want to go hyper-realistic, that's not really necessary.

So yeah, it's not that you can't be "creative" or "original". You just need to draw more from observation, build up your knowledge of different objects - a "mental library", and then use it to create new things.

That was interesting and I am sure a few people even found it helpful. But forgive me for saying so, I am not sure it is in the right place

Ari only meant that an informative post like the previous would've been better suited somewhere in the Art Section, rather a thread that's meant to be Bleed Art exclusive.

Sorry, since there was some discussion about learning to draw, I got carried away. I just don't like the notion of "I can't draw".

It's not so much that I can't draw, anyone can, I'm just not satisfied with my own artwork to the point that it annoyed me into not trying to improve anymore, as counterproductive as it is.

This an OC? 'Cause I don't recognize her. Still, you did a great job with coloring.

Just got the picture this morning.
It's a collaboration character between me and a close friend. The name is (Heart)Beat.
Beat doesn't have a gender so Bleed drew Beat with uh...both parts.lol

Yeah, inclined to agree. The whole design is feminine. Both clothing and bodily shape.

Well at first Beat was going to be a trap but then I told Andrew that Beat was a girl...then I turned around and said guy... Then I said it didn't matter, Pft.
So I guess Bleed went with first choice LOL

But he drew nudes of uh..Beat as well.lol;; So that's why I said it doesn't matter with the gender.

By nudes do you mean he gave you the base drawing as well? Or do you actually mean nudes
