So aside from working hours on end on my own manga I'm a videogame music composer. I've recently entered this music competition for 2004 in a community I go to, GamingW. The competition happens once every year at the end of the year. The competition is naturally called GW (Gaming World) Composer Wars because the object of it is to simply write battle music to be judged against others. I'll be judged on music theory, originality, and how well it fits the 'battle' theme of the comp.

Here's my entry:

The cinematic part before the looped song.

Entry - Looped version.

Since I know like 80% of the comp entries will be rock/heavy metal based I decided to aim for something more...not like that. When the judge said 'battle music' many people assumed for RPG. Since rock/based type stuff works for most battle themes, what I'm most worried about is not winning the mainstream vote. Anyway, some suggestions before submition would be cool.

Also, something I just finished:

This isn't a submition. It's just some practice making menu-screen music.

Sounds like something youd hear in a decent/good RPG ;)

Since I'm currently on a computer with no sound, I'll discuss that later. But for now, I'll just say two things: first of all, make sure you copyright your work and clearly mark it with your name so no one steals it. Second, if this contest tries to rip your work, just refer them to this page:

I'm no composer, but here are my comments.

This kicks ass. Period.

The volume for percussions are sort of at the wrong place. The drumming should be a little bit louder and the cymbals should be a little softer. Or rather, they should both be toned down.

This song seemed a little too fast-beated to be menu music. However, the music itself is great, so all you have to do is to put it somewhere else...I say a cinematic, particularly in displaying a character's cool talents in a casual perspective.

By the way, I'm planning (maybe for a long time) of making a flash anime...think I can use your music then? ^_^

I'm no musician nor expert on the topic, but those are just kickass. I can just imagine how long that must've taken you.

Keep up the astounding work, Dakota! They ROCK. ;3
