Not a devils trap, if you had paid attention a devils trap on that show has a few more lines and symbols. this is a simple pentagram whichs meaning has changed over a few hundred years so guessing for which meaning they are going by can be hard, it's been a protection, holy, even reference to Christian stuff which I gave up arguing on, to later meaning evil, though the evil one actually is suppose to have the goats head cause even the upside down one isn't evil -__- I did a lot of study on that symbol since I got it tattooed on my wrist and I'm constantly asked if I worship the devil...

anyways, I'm thinking the thing she's trapped in is just a protection or something, something that can do some damage to a demon.

A devils trap is refrance to the show Super Natural when they wanted to make a demon powerless they would trap them in it. But as I said earlier the devils trap has more lines and symbols while this simple pentagrams meaning has changed so many times it's hard to decide which reference they are going for.
