I think Mimi slipped and flossed too hard when Junior mentioned Jeff. I think she was flossing in the first place as a tease.

Can Pain be dead. Here is how I think death works. Grim's very existence allows for death to occur, so even though he is death he doesn't actually have to go to ever person who dies and take their soul (otherwise he would never appear in the comic). Certain creatures, demons, are "alive" in the underworld. Just because your down there doesn't mean your dead. Things that are alive include Pain, Nergals, Mimi, and Mandy. Things that are not alive include Grim, Junior, and Dark Danny (since he is the spirits of something that was once alive). So yes, Pain can die. His soul would leave his body (and become a ghost) and his body would return to the... earth.
Interesting note, can Grim and Junior die? No. They can however be highly inconvenienced to the point of invalidation. They can be taken apart and scattered to the ends of the world. They can also probably be destroyed by specific means.
