In the years video games have evolved from 8-bit gameplay to stunning 3d action! But it's not just the visuals, it's the composed music. What are your favorite video game songs? These are some of my favorites:
Bioshock - Cohen's Masterpiece
Sonic Adventure 2 - Live and Learn
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Song of Storms
There are more, sadly they are all hidden in my mind. Now it's your turn, SNAFU members! Enjoy.

I might as well contribute.

It's a subject I've been bitching about for a while, but I love all of Akira Yamaoka's work on the Silent Hill series. The man is a genius, and my favorite song from him is Theme of Laura.

You should give them a listen, if you're looking for good video game OSTs.

Oooh now here's a thread I can back! I don't necessarily have a favorite, since my taste differs from day to day, but there are a few that have become pretty memorable for me.

Lets start off with the one and only Hell's March. Oh EA, what have you done to one of my most loved franchises...

Critics say its among the most underestimated games there are, and I agree. Beyond Good & Evil was a gem, also for its beautiful soundtrack.

Ah, the Battlefield Theme. Who here plays Battlefield, and can look me straight in the eyes, and say that they did not hum along with that theme? Oh, and a little bonus.

The entire soundtrack of Metal Gear Solid. All of them. Sniper Wolf.... WWWWWWHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY???

Jesper Kyd. Everything he touches.

I could go on and on, I pride myself in having a large music library filled with (what I consider) the best game music. I havent even touched the indie games yet! And those have some very good soundtracks. I recommend looking up the Dustforce, Machinarium, Braid and Botanicula soundtracks.

Lately, I've been enjoying Shoji Meguro's work for the Persona Series. Especially his boss fight and final battle tracks, such as Battle for Everyone's Souls and I'll Face Myself (Reincarnation Version).

EDIT: Crap, Borderlands 2 has got this stuck in my he- *is shot*

Currently rather obsessed with Asura's Wrath, especially the main theme. Despite beating it more than 3 times now. lol.

Also been playing Tropico so here's a few South American ones.

If any of you havent heard of Video Games Live, I suggest you youtube it. They have a great collection of video game medleys and montages. The concert itself is pretty amazing. Also, Portal

As for favorite songs, my personal favorites are the theme to Chrono Cross and the Garudo Valley song from Zelda:OoT (the 25th anniversary edition of the song is outstanding)

The soundtrack of Final Fantasy VI will always have a special place in my heart. I've parted the veil of nostalgia and realised the gameplay isn't great by today's standards long since, but the music is one thing I can't be objective about. Picking out favorites to highlight is a chore, because I have about 20 favorites in there and there's like a piano, heavy metal, remastered and orchestral version of each. I eventually mastered Kefka's theme on piano, so I guess that counts for something. And then there's the battle themes. But most of all, Terra's theme. Overdose on Childhood Nostalgia, every time. I'm gonna skip the rest of the FFs and Zelda and such for obviousness.

Guile's theme goes with everything, and the Street Fighter 4 soundtrack has some great fighty music in general that I use a lot for mah action roleplaying.

Super Meat Boy actually has a super epic soundtrack once you give it a second listen (slow burner, the last one).

Ar Tonelico (only played 2) is a series thematically about music, and it shows (or sounds, I guess?). So yeah, pretty good OST and a nice change of pace also.

I played Xenoblade Chronicles recently. Had a few gem in there as well.

No Persona without Poem for everyone's soul!

The Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne game had a few gems as well (kicks it at 0:15), and I think I like that soundtrack better. Less engrish j-pop, more electronic rock goodness.

Heh, yeah, I've played minimal amounts of Battlefield, and I still remember that hymn vividly. Made me want to stay in the menu and not actually play the game.

Oh, how could I have forgotten the Evil Genius main theme? That, for me, is the music that made me wait in the main menu just to listen to it. Hell, I havent touched the game in years and I still occasionally hum that theme... mostly while under the shower, not quite sure what is up with that.

Super Mario Land theme. A great reminder of my childhood, one of the best Mario themes, imo, and my current ringtone.

Never met more than a few people who actually played this game this game even fewer still have played This one.

I love games i pick up for really cheap because they have gems like this and if that isn't your flavor there's a wide variety like electro fusion.

Any fans of RTS with a epic soundtrack i'd advise giving Total annihilation a run.

Most of the soundtracks i like are from older games especially ones that have a major hold on my childhood and all of them are games i love to play even to this day.

Halo ODST: Deference for Darkness.

Shadow of the Colossus: A Despair-filled Farewell

I would go for Devil May Cry 3's "Devils Never Cry". It has a badass beat that would make you do air-guitar.

Unknown where the Cursed Wave was born…
After the stars doth cross the heavens,
The sky in the East doth darken and air doth fill with mourning.
From the chosen land beyond the forest, a sign of the wave comes.
Riding the wake is Skeith, the Terror of Death, to drown all that stands.
Mirage of Deceit, Innis, Betray all with the flawed image, and did aid the Wave.
And by the Power of Magus, a drop from the Wave doth reach the heavens, and creates a new Wave.
With the Wave, Fidchell, the power to tell the dark future, hope darkens, sadness and despair rule.
Gorre schemes when swallowed by the Cursed Wave.
Macha seduces with the sweet trap.
Wave reaches the Pinnacle, and escape none can. Tarvos still remains with more cruelty to punish and destroy.
And with the turbulent destruction after the Wave. Only a void remains. From deep within the void arrives Corbenik.
Perhaps then the Wave is just a beginning as well.

Been getting back into .hack, as you can see.

Of course, it's not .hack without Aura.
