Front Mission Evolved

Postby Wes S » Sun Aug 15, 2010 1:42 am

<.< I'm hoping this isn't a repeat.

I was wondering if there are any Front Mission fans here, and if anyone was excited about the new title: Front Mission Evolved.

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=317F7PVaBoI

I'm not sure what to think of this yet, sure the visuals are amazing and the gameplay looks nice, but being a strategy RPG is what separated this title from some other mech-themed games, now it just kinda seems like an Armor Core clone.

The graphics look atrocious... good god, are they releasing this on the PS2 or something?

 No, It's a PS3 and 360 release, but I don't see how they are 'atrocious', they may not be on the same level as Halo: Reach, but they're still good.

Besides, there's more to a game than graphics.

It seems way too Japanese for me... they're probably gonna yell a lot, and then suddenly the mech gets stronger >.>

It's not that bad Asmo. I've been playing the Front Mission series for years, and it is by far my favorite Tactics RPG series, even moreso than FFT. You have alot of interchangeable parts for the Wanzers (mechs), as well as weapons, but it plays true to an actual mech game. There's no OMGINSTANTPOWERUP moments from it, regardless if it's Japanese. It's much more like an Westen-style Mech game. Try finding Front Mission 3 for the PS1 or Front Mission 4 for PS2. They're both excellent titles with very good storylines that split into different directions.

I think this is the important thing to look at. And it doesn't look like it is as good as armored core. Don't get me wrong I like several of the Armored Core games and I think most of the games are entertaining, but what I liked about Front mission was that it was a competent tactical RPG and that is what I want.

Well, have you seen the trailers about the new Front Mission?
Its no longer the tactical RPG it used to be anymore.
It has been turned into a 3rd person shooter, which for me personally, doesn't look like the greatest idea.

Once I get a 360 I'm thinking of buying this new one just because I'm a fan of the Front Mission titles and I do have an urge to check this one out, but I'm really hoping they go back to strategy RPGs

Oh and Asmodai, Remni is right, there is no 'super moves' or getting ridiculously overpowered, FM4 is a real challenge, you pilots get skills that help out a lot without making the game too easy. lol You have to work your way up to a skill just to fire both weapons at once, and it only activates as long as both weapons are the same type. Plus the Wanzers have a weight limit, Wanzers with light bodies can usually only have a machine gun, or a melee weapon, you can't have a Wanzer strapped to the teeth with missiles or anything.

I've already got it preordered for the 360, as I think dual-analog controls would fit best for this type of game, since it is 3rd person. I dont think PC will have as many people playing on it either.

I am disappointed it's not another Tactical RPG, but I can overlook that as long as they keep the customization as high as the older Front Mission games. From the looks of it, they certainly are, and are already offering special parts for pre-orders for the 360 version from GameStop.

Also.. FM3 would be my personal favorite, as I absolutely loved running melee Wanzers and just using the punch spikes in the enemies faces. Instant destruction of that part, which is another thing I hope they keep with this, is parts destruction.

Ugh, I freaking HATE gamestop, mostly because of their 'preorder this game and get special content' bullshit. Playing a game is about unlocking the specials not having someone else do it for you just so they can bribe more players into buying from them. It's such a load of crap.

I dont really see the issue with it, considering they're not actually charging you more for anything. There's no harm in pre-ordering it if you're not paying extra. Besides, the parts themselves arent anything super special, they're actually only slightly above your starting parts when it comes to stats/abilities. It's really just a starting booster for online play.

Now I could understand if they were some super retarded overpowered weapons, that would be lame, but they're not, so relax.

It's a bot that actually responds fairly well at least?

Recent preview on the game from IGN has me more hopeful though, and they even previewed the PC version. Of course I'm getting it on the 360, since it'll be easier to get people together on it, and hopefully more of the hardcore players at that. Just say no to kids.

Game's out. I'm enjoying it. Story is kinda meh, but it's about as much as you can expect from SE anymore. Combat is pretty great though, controls are nice and tight, at least for the 360 version. Multiplayer has been a blast for the few games I've played, and opposed to what other people have said, I havent had any issues getting into matches. Also havent had any lag whatsoever so far either, so that's a good sign.

got it myself... and it does indeed fill my Heavy Gear spot quite nicely... story is rather stupid, but this is what I generally expect of Japanese games (shout, and you'll instantly get 10x stronger!!!!! RAAAAH)

I just wish there was a way to preview the parts in the hangar, before buying them
