Magic: the Gathering - TCG/Online

Postby Garethcool » Wed May 12, 2010 4:23 pm

Starting this thread because I'm sure everyone knows at least one person who plays Magic the Gathering.

First Topic: Jund, who plays it? Who wants to destroy it? (Jund is a red/green/black deck that uses big creatures, nasty spells, and sacrifices)

I'm the reason no one at my hobby store plays Jund anymore. When I first started playing everyone there had a Jund deck. But since some new guy who built a deck out of bargain bin cards kicked their asses they've all started playing nearly the same Black/Red or Vampire decks.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

I keep getting screwed by my friend's mono-black vamp deck. He runs 4 Vampire Nocturnus' and because he runs mono-black all his vamps get +4/+4.

I went out of my way to finish my pure-white health/denial deck.

Iona, Shield of Emeria is fun against mono-colored decks. Also got a Linvala, keeper of Silence in that sucker too.

I hate that Nocturnus card. Everyone has four of them. And I bloody hate Lightning bolt. Most of my creatures are 2/2 and get destroyed before I can really use them.

Those cards are expensive. I'm playing on a budget here. The only cards I own are in my deck and I don't think I payed more than twenty dollars for all of them. Besides my deck revolves around comboing artifacts.

My friend does that. He bounces cards to and from his hand with a pure artifact deck. Gets annoying after a while

Master Transmuter? My favorite card. I love bringing out a Darksteel, Inkwell Leviathan, or a Sphinx of the Steel Wind on the first few turns. Or doing the infinite loop with Sharuum the Hegemon. Permanently exiling a card from their hand and then exiling another one with Tidehollow Scullor. Or just bouncing a card back to get it out of harms way from a spell.

I found it weird that no one here took any notice to these cards until I started winning with them.

I love to do something like casting a thunderbolt, then copying it with a echo mage.
'Three damage? Not worth stopping.'

"Hahaha, it's nine damage now."

If you really wanna piss people off with that go into Shards of Alara and find some 'Exalted' cards. When a creature attacks alone it gets +1/+1 for each card with exalted on your side of the field.

I've never seen a Bant deck. I was kinda thinking of making one if I ever got the money.

Esper and Bant just seem so unloved but I like them.

Don't get anything from Shards. They won't be legal soon. Well in Extended they will be but we aren't allowed to play that.

Thank god, lol.
Shards was sooo brutal, Jund kept putting my elves down. I've officially gotten into deck building just for kicks. I like building decks based around making the other person go 'fuck it.'

Just as long as I get some more artifact creatures I'm okay with Esper going away. I hope the Transmuter or Master of Etherium get reprinted.

Bumping this up to the top.

So, anybody have to fight any Defender-only decks lately?

My friend made one at the RotE release and beefed it up for a few FNM. He did okay. Other people copied it with better cards but I beat them. Nobody is really playing any of the RotE cards anymore.

Lol. I'm playing a good few for my mono-white deck. I've got a Student of Warfare, and a Transcendent Master. 2 Ionas, and some other epic stuff. It's Standard, too.

Cool. Wish there was more variety in our metagame. Same ol' Black/Red decks.

I have yet to see a black/red in any of my local FNM games. I had to play against red Direct damage last Friday, but nothing red/black. The worst around here is vampires, but most people are deck-builders so there is never a lack of crazy decks.

Everyone pretty much runs the same Black/Red burn damage or a mono Black vamp deck all web decks pretty much. There is my friend with a green token deck, my other friend with R/W/U Ally, and then me with my Esper deck. I'm the only one that ever gets into the top four.

Esper deck? Mind dropping a few card names? Sounds pretty awesome.

I was screwing around with my elf deck and I made a card list for it, and I found that it woulda rocked standard in the Lorwyn Block.

Its okay. I'm honestly not sure how I win any matches. Esper is supposed to be the weakest of the Shards.

Uh...off the top of my head it goes something like
x4 Etherium Sculptor
x4 Master of Etherium
x4 Esper Stormblade
x4 Lodestone Golem
x4 Master Transmutor
x3 Tidehollow Sculler
x3 Ethersworn Canonist
x3 Sphinx Summoner
1x Sharuum The Gegemon

Then depending on what I feel like playing
x2 Darksteel Colossus
x2 Inkwell Leviathan
x2 Sphinx of the Steel Wind
x2 Filigree Angel

I usually play one Filigree Angel no matter what for the life gain. Get some artifacts on the field and four Master Transmutor and gain 100 life a turn.

I'll run four counters depending on what deck I'm facing. I start off with Cancel and move to Flashfreeze or something. Then I have Doom Blades and a Path to Exile.

Basically everything depends on Master Transmutor. From bouncing Tidehollow Scullor to permanently exiling a card and than exiling another card or bouncing it each time they draw a card so I can look at it and choose to remove it from play or not. It can remove one of my artifacts from play to cancel the effect of a spell. Or summon my heavy creatures like Darksteel for only one blue mana.

There isn't much land in the deck because I use Etherium Sculptor to reduce the cost of my creature spells. And they add to Master of Etherium's power. I've summoned four Sculptors and four Master of Etheriums for nine mana on one turn. That's four 11/11 creatures for one mana each. More if you count my artifact lands.

Canonist is there to ruin Jund and Lodestome Golem to make that one card you play that much harder to play.

Sometimes I'll play with Glassdusk Hulk and Sharuum the Hegemon to create an infinite loop of unblockable damage but its hard to set up and people figured it out pretty quick.

I actually had no idea this was a real deck until someone showed me a MTG forum. I made the first build of the deck from all the bargain bin cards nobody wanted on my first day of playing. I just thought they looked cool.

Some people made copies of my deck after I started knocking out all the Jund decks and placing the top four. Some people didn't like the fact that someone that new was beating them. They had some cool combos like Tidehollow Stix with [url=http://www.recoculous.com/wp-content/metallurgeon.jpg[/url], but none of them could ever beat my version so they stopped playing with them.
