I think the problem was that Drewbie never pressed his advantage. He always attacked and moved forward when he thought he had the units. Not when he crushed the ultra army. He should have done that and gone for his nuts not fuck around because you have that period where they need to rebuild 100 supply worth of units.

BobSagat wrote:Idra won that because he had the resources to use from so many bases and he could've won even faster if he hadn't been so stubborn about using ultras and switched to brood lords.

If he had killed 40 drones to make room for 6 more ultras he might have even lost because that's 2 bases down, he wouldn't have time to replenish his army when Drewbie's mostly intact tank army comes in and rofflestomps his base

Or if he had killed 40 drones to make broodlords in addition to his ground army he could have won with ease. Or maybe not, if you were observant the 6 or so broodlords he made were picked off by about 2 vikings because he couldn't afford (in food) building AA to protect them. Even assuming he built the same amount of drones, had the addition of broodlords occurred earlier in the game it's still possible the econ boost wouldn't have won it simply because Idra was constricted by food limitations despite his basically unlimited econ.

Also of note if you noticed it became increasingly difficult to provide defense for the various bases once Idra had taken half the map, and drewbie did terrible at taking advantage of that. He attacked once in the main and once on a bottom expo but had he built 10 supply of reapers he could have easily taken almost any expo on the map.

On a tactical note had drewbie taken the bottom right high ground expansion instead of the bottom right starting position, Idra would have lost. Reason being the ground army would have been unable to push into it (yay ramp) and the broodlords alone would not have cleared the defenders before vikings were sent in.

EagleMan wrote:Sentios this is assuming that a person with less bases than you can actually get 200/200 as easily as you can.

Unless you let them get a massive force and just push out, you have the clear advantage. While they may have more food available, it certainly doesn't mean they're going to have the resources to outnumber you.

It's actually quite easy to hit pop cap if you're turtling, as drewbie was. A combination of natural chokes, artificial chokes, and static base defense minimize the damage to the defending force allowing for a powerful army to be built up.

That's a lot of theorycrafting. Like too much. You're making a shitton of assumptions. I personally feel like Drewbie was never in that game, even if he took out a base Idra just had so many and that tank army couldn't be moved fast enough to take them all out before another army spawned.

But making blanket statements like if Drewbie just had some reapers he would've won the game? Ridiculous.

That video is only as famous as it is because of Idra rage and TvZ imbalance.

So, first balance patch is up. It's very much what they said it would be, plus lots of editor improvements. Haven't tried zergling rushing siege tanks yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Servers are a bit wonky at the moment, though.

They might have overdone it a bit with the ultras. Not to bad though for most other things. Siege tanks still do similar and at range.

Yeah, I've heard of the Ultras thing too. At this rate, Blizzard have heard of it and are working on a fix to come out ASAP.

If it only works on planetary fortress, though, which seems to be the case, then it's not exactly a gamebreaker. If a large amount of ultralisk comes for your base, you probably shouldn't try to repair it anyways.

At the cost and time it takes to make an Ultra, you wouldn't exactly make a lot, anyway. A page and a half of Zerglings and about 5 Ultralisks are optimal force just to break up larger armies or distract an opponent from the bigger picture, which could be your friends armies.

Now if you get two people to do the same, like me and a friend did, then thats a whole nother story.

The planetary fortress thing is a bug anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if it was hotfixed in the near future.    Because Bliz hates Zerg

You generally need to apply early pressure against Zerg. Once you got a decent amount of, say, stalkers, you need to attack. Or you can go Void Ray or such quickly and attack with that. Either way, you generally need to deny their first expansion. If you can attack right as it comes up, that's ideal. Good use of Collosi can also save your ass against masses of hydras if you get into the end game.

When I play Protoss I have a problem with Mutas. My Stalkers just can't keep up with them flying around outside our bases.

Well if you got a starport you can use void rays, charge the beam on the shield of your buildings and then send them to do quick work of muta's.
there are also phoenixes but I don't know how effective they are

Cannons along the mineral line is usually the best counter to a muta attack. Void Rays take too long to charge against the number of Mutalisks. Phoenix's would be optimal, but what use is there after?

They can be used as general AA, and I always found graviton beam good, between harrasing mineral lines with them, to lifting the front line of the enemy especially if they go with roaches or ultras, and against terran I always get them to pick up siege tanks
