He's asking for free and legal games. I'd personally go to www.nitrome.com Check out thier selection of mini-games for that. Otherwise there is always torrents for the less legal fashion of game acquiring.

I'd go to www.torrentbox.com and look up "Best old games" And get that torrent personally. Good stuff. Majorly. Try Tyrian.

Newgrounds has some interesting Flash games.

Actully i ment any game, so long as i can get it off the net (weather it was put on the net because its free, or beacuse someone jacked the game, and put it on the net illegally) ^^

Butt seriously, for the best gaming news I can find, just got to IGN They've got, like, a Master Gaming List. The only way I can Properly suggest is if you tell me what Consoles you own.

As for online, World of Warcraft hands down for the best MMO. Or Counterstrike for the best shooter (or halo if you own an xbox).

CivIII and Fallout are classics

If you have PSX...
then I'd go with FFT, 7, or 9, Legend of Mana, Thousand Arms or any of the classic RPG's

Pokemon titles for the GBA.
I'm just finishing Advance Wars2 (GBA), a bit old but a great standby nonetheless.

Company of Heroes for the PC. Great game.. albeit time consuming
