whats so great about it having a modest nature though? do you get like some sort of new evolution through it?

Moods modify how a pokemon's stats increase.

Theoretically, if you're going to do hardcore battling, you'll want to control all the variables related to stats, on top of manipulating the EV's (effort values), which are the hidden stat modifiers.

But that's really only the professional pokemon battlers. I really wouldn't bother myself.

If you're planning on competing in online battles regularly, EVs and natures are extremely important. Natures give a 10% boost to one stat, and a 10% decrease to another stat, although there are neutral natures as well.

Once I finish Leaf Green for the 3rd time, I'll port over a few Pokes and start breeding and training like crazy. There's a bunch of tournaments I want to compete in.

Razek the trade you really want is a Mew for a level 13 Machop. It knows low kick AND Karate Chop. seriously one of a kind.

According to my guide the modest nature gives (+Sp Attack, -Attack) Pretty good if you are looking for a special attacker variety Pokemon. As for the gender preference I don't know. Gender doesn't matter as far as stats are concerned, it may be for his own breeding purposes if he lacks a ditto. I’ll do some breeding myself to see if I can’t churn one out.

I have a ditto, its just you only have a 12.5% chance for the egg to hatch as a female for a eevee and for all the eevees I hatched never had a modest nature. I have 60 eevee in my emerald version right now

Reason I want a female is for a combo I came up with: Thunder, Shadowball, Attract and Thunderwave.
90% of people don't realize that most of their pokemon are male and I want to take advantage of that gender and give myself a 50/50 chance of them not attacking with attract, then stack it with thunderwave, then pound down on them with thunder or shadowball.
This combo was tested on netbattle and was very effective

I have three males and three females in my party, I'm diverse! XD
