Are you or have you ever been a Builder?

Postby ari-6 » Mon Aug 04, 2014 2:16 pm

I was just wondering if there was anyone here who works/has worked as a builder? Or maybe you know someone who is a builder? By that I mean someone who works on a building site.

Is this something to do with your real life status?

No, but I can't help but question why this is here.

I'm a builder.
You know who else?
Everyone as well.
You know why?
Because we're all the Special.

Randori~ I don't understand that reference but referring to yourself as "The special" sounds unfortunate.

MadDoc% "Why this is here"? Did I put it in the wrong place? I just wanted to know if anyone was a builder. A real builder and if so, could they please tell me about it?

1. Why haven't you seen the Lego movie?
2. I mean why did you make this thread?

1. Because I don't care about it
2. I just told you. Because I want to someone to tell me about being a builder.

It's hard work, long days, you're around other guys all day who will want to carry on small talk and such, when things go wrong with something everyone shifts the blames to someone else.
"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."

Tour, have you been or know someone who is a builder? Would there be a situation where the job would depend on whether people liked you or not?

You getting the job, probably not, in terms of people helping you out with things that aren't strictly in their job description and stuff, ya, of course it depends on how people view you. If people like you/you get along with people they could do things that would make your life easier

That doesn't sound so hard I guess. Do builders get the option of working specifically at night?

I don't know, I've never seen construction being done at night much.

Keep in mind, people are going to be talking to you and at you all day, you were extremely uncomfortable with people around your neighbourhood talking to you nicely when you were walking the dog.

What I had in mind. Mindless manual labor and a check at the end of the month.

I give up. Is there any job that doesn't rely on people skills?

uh, IT, kind of. Even most stay at home jobs would have the occasional group work.

I have no IT skills. I mean something with the barest skill set. There is just nothing in the world that fits me.

Don't you need an engineering degree? Or something similar?

That doesn't sound so hard. Is it difficult? Does it involve anything that might require specialist training?
