I never liked the book, so I'm pretty ambivalent about this
"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."

The trailer sort of disappoints me, but still looking forward to it.

I'm disappointed it's not in black and white, but for how popular this book is, I assume they're going all out for this movie; so I have high hopes!

I do think that they should have made this years ago. It just doesn't seem...right to put all of these digital age things in there.

How else will we preserve the copyrights into 2300 so that future writers and artists can't do anything because it's all too similar to copyrighted works?

I was supposed to read this book in elementary school. All I remember is a discussion in class about why certain colors appeared.

I wonder when humanity will have reached it's peak of imagination and begins collectively cracking and making increasingly incoherent teletubby-like shows just to escape from the inevitable tedium of repetition.

Anyone else notice that during the ever-increasing power of the major governments in the world, there's a surplus of dystopian fiction movies/books in the spotlight? It seems that while all this craziness is being hushed over, people are getting their frustration out by watching movies about overthrowing governments and fighting back. So while we praise these brave characters, our society is taking mind-numbing pills and focusing on surface-area issues...

End of rant/thoughts

One reason, a lot of the happy stories have been done. Coming up with something that's not predictable, and original, is harder due to stories/detail being 'bought'. By original, I mean making something without having a fuckton of assholes appear and call it a rip off of something else because of minute details.

Dystopian stories aren't always as widely known and accepted, so the chances of it being compared to another work is smaller than that of a happy story.
