Not sure if anyone else is really into much of cartoon network, but this new show has turned out pretty well. With a pretty solid intro theme and starting off giving two episodes I'm actually pretty psyched for where it's going. Anyone else have any thoughts on it?

It looks like another Adventure Time, from what I've seen on the commercials about it.

Three magic warriors that summons weapons from their namesake gems, and their newest member, Stephen, who's gem appears to be a Ruby.

I saw one of the episodes that I think got leaked on Tumblr a week ago or something?

I'm not sure what to make of it, and I haven't seen both episodes yet. It seems like a cute premise, though, in that Steven seems to be a "magical boy" of sorts? Or at least I heard that was sort of the intention with him or something. It certainly gave off that feel when he was first attempting to activate his gem powers and all.

I feel like if they're going to have some crazy plot twists (which they probably will) that involve his mother, which I'm guessing died and created Steven. It's a pretty playful cartoon, besides the monster murder that you have to have in it. It's also created by Rebecca Sugar who was a writer for adventure time so it should have promise.

it's created by rebecca sugar and as such is the first cartoon created by a woman to ever air on cartoon network.

rebecca sugar wrote a lot of songs for adventure time and was a storyboard artist for a lot of its best episodes like "simon and marcy" and "i remember you"

i'll probably give it a watch at some point

Just from reading this I'm gonna give it a try.

Shows like this make me positive for CN's future...and then I am reminded of Uncle Grandpa.

MAN does that show suck, why is it real? oh my god, if it were like, the secondary cartoon to another cartoon's flagshipping of a combination show, like Two Stupid Dogs was with the relaunched Secret Squirrel, or something similar, I could forgive it for its sophomoric intensity, but it's too absurdist with too vague a theme to be funny about any particular concept. :/

If eventually it produces something legitimately super funny I will gladly accept that funny but I just don't see it from the evidence we have so far. I give that shit the boot. :X

^^^^ All this

You know when you study animation you are required to follow the basic story guides for creating your content. Of course you are supposed to stretch or change some aspects of what you learn afterwards because they are guidelines, but not completely abandon all sense of what a plot is.

I commend people like Rebecca and also Natasha Allegri (Bee and Puppycat) for giving us something fun and entertaining to watch which is the point.

Read somewhere that his gem could be a rose quartz. Makes sense since his mom's name was rose.

I watched the first episode. Gotta say, I'm disappointed. But hey, that's why you never judge a show by its Pilot.

in my humble opinion: it rules.

I had no expectations, so it is impressing me for making me enjoy characterization on basically nothing. I also always love it when we come into the story like five books later than the "beginning" chapter. we're seeing the results of a tryst, and the less cool members of a team that hold the formerly coolest member in high regard; they have to like her, otherwise they wouldn't be going out of their way to be nice to her son.

this is a surprisingly mature show! very few 'zonky boing look at how wacky we are' jokes. i think that as long as the show is given a chance, it will grow on everyone, because its writing and direction has a track record of not fucking up.

compared to something like. fucking uncle grandpa, this is wonderfully thoughtful.

Amethyst is WAY hotter than human Lumpy Space Princess.

I'm pretty sure it's the hair. That hair on Amethyst... <3

Plus, also personality.

those lovely lady lumps working their magic. Everyone seems to like the pouty lip on Amethyst. Each character is just so god damn likeable in one way or another. ¦:3
