Great Remakes You've Seen

Mon Apr 08, 2013 10:22 am

So you may know I saw Evil Dead, the remake to the original cult classic. I liked it, it brings a darker, more gruesome vision of the original. Which got me thinking: what are some movies you thought were great (for a remake/reboot/reimagining)? And please state what it remade, rebooted, etc. And... yeah.

King Kong, John Carpenter's The Thing, True Grit.

Not many off the top of my head, but True Grit was probably the best example of a remake done right.

Haven't seen Dredd yet. I've heard it was great though and was closer to the comic's version.

Especially if you don't acknowledge the Stallone was as existing.

The 2012 remake? Hell no.

I liked it. Not more than the original, but it was funny seeing Johhny Depp act awkward.

I got this weird Michael Jackson vibe from Depp in that film. :[

It seemed to me like the movie had no real resolution. The entire point of giving children a tour of the factory was to decide an heir to Mr. Wonka after he became too old to continue. At the end, Wonka does not have a clear heir, and Charlie stays destitute, presumably. I really didn't understand why they went that direction except to simply be different than the original. Maybe I'm just not seeing it.

How the hell can I forget that one?!

Oh, and The Hills Have Eyes. One of my favorite scary/gorefest movies.

Both. It's closer to the comic version from what I've heard.
