I found a few very good well written fanfiction digging through the mountains of trash on fan fiction.net.
they are a few but they are there.
I actually read naruto fanfiction, the series itself I don't like that much, but I found myself enjoying a few fanfics and crossovers of the series more then the series itself

in regards to the comment that there is good fanfiction out there: i'm sure there is. and the authors of such fiction are wasting their talents on plagiarism of concepts and characters when they should be writing their own stories.

but it suffers from the same problem and has quite a bit of trash to read in order to find a good story.

Honestly, I quite like good fanfiction. I mean, I don't read it personally, but just the idea is great. You're taking someone else's characters and expanding their universe and that in itself is creative and amazing. It takes a lot of writing skill to put someone else's characters into your own ideas and keep them true to the original character. Sure, it lacks the creativity of creating your own characters, but there's nothing wrong with that. If you love a character and truly understand them, it's almost the same as coming up with your own.
