It's nice to know that I'm not alone, there.

Funny though. The book itself is terrible.

God.

Just bad.

I read all three

it's a shame it wasn't written by a better writer, there could have been potential with the characters to make the books actually good and not just smut.

I meant we all remember you being sore, haha.

But yes, the book is shite. My girlfriend read it as well and I tried to read a page of it, but couldn't finish because I started laughing.
"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."

I don't know anybody who's read it. Then, I don't really ask, and my group of friends is a bit too awesome (and male) to read it, so.

I tend to avoid the romance genre, myself. I much prefer fantasy, sci-fi, thriller and horror stuff.

You are speshul alright.

My problem with fantasy is that everyone just seems to be whacking off at the altar of Tolkien.
My problem with sci-fi is that everyone just seems to be whacking off at the altar of Arthur C Clarke.
My problem with mystery is that everyone just seems to be whacking off at the altar of Agatha Christie.
So and so forth with every genre.

Not as much as I would like, but in general I don't like most sci-fi or fantasy.

I'm trying to write a fantasy novel without orcs and elves.

Fantasy is the reason why I love science fiction.

Most fantasy novels all have orcs, elves, dwarves, etc.

Science fiction, you have limitless possibilities.

That's my perspective on it.

A lot of generalizing, but you get the point.

But the problem that all major form of genre lit have is that they don't expand much outside of the concepts, cliches and tropes originally laid down by the founding fathers of the genre.

Dwarves, gnomes, werewolves, vampires, elementals... Shouldn't be too hard.

I don't think of vampires or werewolves as fantasy, it might be because I instantly think of Tolkien style high fantasy.
