It's valuable in the US just certain places. And you pulled a hammie.

Wash is the best part of the show.

@Tuor: I'm not sure how to describe my thoughts on it, but consider me very pessimistic about it. While I think it may have been possible to achieve at some point long ago, these days it's just such a silly and romantic notion to think that with enough hard work, you can achieve all your goals and dreams while here, no matter how extravagant they might be. Especially not the way things are these days.

So it bothers me, then, to hear my dad announce things like going to Italy in two years and buying a nice house and car because he's gotten himself into this business of sorts that relies on him selling generic beauty and healthcare products.

It also makes me rather nervous, to say the least, should things go, well, wrong. ~_>;

Aye i have two cousins in Denver that studied that kind of stuff and they are doing pretty damn good.
Parents want to move to Houston as i said and family there says there are good institutions there but im not phased at all about living in Texas.

And yes... it freaking horrible when that happens, my legs hate me.

I believe that the american dream simply put is the idea that working 40 hours a week is enough to be able to support a family and keep a roof over ones head. Now of course a minimum wage job shouldn't guarantee being able to own a house or a new car but it should be enough to keep an apartment and decent used car.

Did the American dream really change since when the idea was made? Before it was usually seen as easier to own a house and a decent car, but nowadays it's hard to get close to that without bank/government assistance and being in dept.

Because we never kept worker pay to match inflation. The smartest thing Henry Ford did was pay his workers enough to buy the products they made plus even more.

I heard with the latest election minimum wage was raised to 10$, but I haven't seen anyone mention the increase in their checks. Anyone know if this is true or not? I'm not coming up with any results looking it up.

Minimum wage is still 7.25 nationally, some states have it set higher but there's plenty that haven't and if you're an hourly worker raises almost never keep track with inflation and there's plenty of employers that try to find ways to fire employees when they are due for a raise.

I'm most of the way though the series and he is by far the funniest(making him the best to me) character on the show.

Pretty much. I've seen that plenty where I worked before. I almost got into a situation where I'd have gotten canned after getting injured on the job. The chain I worked for before was notorious for giving them less hours with pretty much no compensation, as well as having this rule where they couldn't work in the same store after said incident, so they'd send them to the farthest store in their power to send them so they'd get fired for not being able to get to work. Then they'd be left jobless and injured.

I already know, I tend to spoil shit for myself. I actually get annoyed at people who complain how something "is forever ruined" if they ever run into a spoiler.

If a spoiler is all that it takes to ruin a show then maybe the show isn't for you

If a spoiler is that crucial to enjoying a show than it's not a very good show.

Tuor and LD, two people who would very much care about a political spiel on the American Dream. :p
