So do you already have a publisher? Or will you be looking for one now that you have it done? And is there any way of getting something of a summary of what kind of story it is?

I'm so full of questions, CK!

Here's my plan for becoming a published author:

1- finish a book
2- edit the book 20 times
3- write my manuscript and query letter
4- have trusted academic minds edit it all
5- pay a professional editor to edit it all (maybe two)
6- do extensive research to find the best agent and pay rates
7- write them a synopsis if they want it
8- edit the book based off agent's suggestions (if I feel the suggestions would help)
9- work with agent to get book signed by a publishing company
10- DON'T GIVE UP! It can take a long time, around 1-3 years...

I have a LONG ways to go... but I'm proud of myself for finishing step one because that can often be one of the hardest steps. I do have a few publishing companies in mind that I think my book would fit well with, but that's a long ways away. For now I just need to focus on step two :P

Here's the smallest summary I can think of: Caverly is a shy high school student that goes to live with her grandmother for the summer. She falls through a mirror and finds herself in another world that has magic. Things get a little complicated as she tries to find her way back home, and she stumbles into the start of a war.

No e-book route for you?

And yeah, regardless of what happens, very few people can say they wrote a book, especially one based purely on their imagination.

That premise looks like it'd make for some cool cover art on the book though, I can see it.

Editing is terrible though because of continuity errors. If you decide you don't like a part of a story, you may wind up having to either forget about it or rewriting everything after. For grammar/vocab it's a non-issue.

Nope. eBooks are great if you want to make quick money, but I would rather have my book officially published and put on the shelves at book stores (and be an eBook by default). If you sign with Kindle or Nook, they have the copyright over your book, and even if the small contract ends, real publishing companies will not look at your book for publication (the success rate is less than 10% if I remember correctly).

Yes, very true! No matter what happens I'll at least be proud of myself for writing a book from imagination. And that totally would be a cool cover!!!

With editing, I'm focusing on the first time through to just be about grammar, better word choice, spelling, and general flow. The second time around I'll focus on "trimming the fat" while adding more spice to the plot. The third time will be adding better character development. Then I'll start back at the first stage, the second, then third again! I'll just keep repeating that process until I feel it's completely perfect. And then I'll send it off to others to edit.

…why
"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."

I finally had my wisdom teeth taken out, after postponing it for a couple weeks.
The swelling has only gotten worse over the weekend, and it hurts when I move too fast.
