i am irish, by ancestry. both of my parents moved to england from ireland about 35 years ago. absolutely no one in ireland says it - or spells it - "patty"

anyone who does would be considered misinformed

The US rejected using "Paddy" because of losing the root to Padraig and also because the word "Paddy" became a slur against the Irish.
