Me neither. I study graphic design and everyone seems to have this "omg comic sans nyeeeh" mindset but then you ask people why they hate it, the bets you get is a "because you're supposed to" kind of response.

Like the "I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE" meme. Most people don't love science or anything. They just see some burning phosphorus and go "omg science is awesome" because it's trendy to Fucking Love Science.

It isn't comfortable to read in large bodies of text, due to its poor kerning.
And its a poor choice for branding/design, because its way too noticeable. Good typography shouldn't be that noticeable. Imagine it like a goblet, where a good use of typography would be a crystal clear goblet, allowing you to see the contents perfectly, Comic Sans would be a golden, jewel covered goblet, completely pulling your attention away from its contents.

Good typography should be invisible, unless there's a specific reason you want to draw attention to the font used.

Comic Sans undoing is its own popularity. Its too recognizable.

also i'm annoyed by your affront towards the potentially faked love of science. sure, it's kinda annoying that these people are pretending to have an interest in something they don't have an interest in, but at least in society it's almost considered 'hip' to understand how the universe fucking works. so what if a lot of the people who claim to love science don't have an active love for it? at least science isn't being vilified like it is by hardcore christian today or like how it was by people in general a few hundred years ago.

if science is considered "cool" you have fucking nothing to complain about.

@Asmo: Thanks for the response. The amount of times i see people hating on that font just because is dishearteningly high. Still, i honestly find liking that font subjective. As you said, it's popularity is the cause of it's trouble, but it's popularity is not the same everywhere. I'd just wish people stopped bashing on people who use the font, if they don't like it that's fine, but i don't see why it should be a topic that everyone should agree on frowning upon.

@Grey; I'm honestly not in the mood for truly defending anything i say because i don't have sources to post, but i'm not going to stop complaining about trends about a particular subject being considered "hip" in that way because it's not just about "everyone being happy and having a healthy fun time instead of witch hunting things" as you see it.

Trends like that do little to raise awareness of scientific endeavors or development, it's about people "liking" a subject they know nothing about thanks to a fad, a subject that may suffer whenever in that same sense of enthusiastic community people spread around information they half-grasped from whatever content aggregator site they used to read that totally scientific article about the 5 Signs That Tell You When Your Cat Wants To Kill You, an article designed to attract the same clique of people that take part in these bandwagons, posing a good risk of spreading misinformation in a faux attempt to get in on said bandwagon that composes whatever it's "in" at the time that dumb or ignorant people out there may actually take for real scientific information, and there is always, ALWAYS someone out there willing to believe ANYTHING that has "studies have shown" first, so you got dumb people dying from chlorine gas poisoning because a facebook picture in a group somewhere said mixing ammonia and bleach is fcuking science, and everyone fucking likes science. Just because people are not vilifying science doesn't mean they're helping either.

Oh yeah people are enjoying themselves sure, let them have their fun. What i hate is the inevitable "broken phone" effect these fads can create. I think that's something to complain about, so i fucking did. Shit.

And as usual reading my own post makes me wonder what the fuck i'm going on about, so here is an example i experienced firsthand that shows precisely what i don't like about these fads.

A long time ago a friend of mine who used to visit these kinds of groups happened to cross a certain image macro vaguely detailing, on a positive undertone, the succesful manufacture of a vaccine against colon and mamary cancer or whatever. Since her mother had been recently diagnosed with mamary cancer you can imagine her surprise. Cue her celebrating and sharing the good news with her mother and other relatives of her with the decease and even going as far as to investigate where she could obtain this miraculous drug, but there was a slight problem; The picture didn't mention that vaccine hadn't been tested on humans and wasn't available at the time. That picture was posted on a group that usually posted related pictures with more or less accurate information, but just this time whoever made that picture posted false information that more than 6000 people liked within a few days. For people who are accustomed to these kinds of things this is a problem of little importance, as many know you shouldn't trust what something says on the internet, but those 6000 that liked that don't really know the information is false. At least not until you got your mother with cancer hopes up. Those 6000 people may also take it upon themselves to share and spread that picture further, creating the broken phone effect i mentioned earlier. Like a zombie infestation where instead of zombies you got misinformed people turning others into misinformed peoples themselves and soon enough the mall is entirely infected.

You may say i'm exaggerating to get my point across but the thing is, the worst thing about us internet people is that we become smart and savvy because we're here all the time and then there comes a brief time where some people forget there is an amount of titanic proportions of stupid people in this world. People who still click on that moving window because they're the lucky winners, people who send a text message to spamware in order to get a password for downloading that raunchy porn you want that curiously never comes, people who send their bank account informations to the nigerian prince that's in dire need of getting rid of $3,000,000,000.00 USD, and people who believe what image macros say about a random scientific fact because they fucking love science.

I hope this example is enough to convey my animosity towards said things better than my previous post did but if it doesn't it's not something that will keep me up at night in any case, so yeah. I'm not a fun hating dick, i'm not saying these bandwagons should not exist, what i'm saying is that shit like that will inevitably cause misinformation to spout somewhere, and THAT is what i heavily dislike because it adds to the notion of computers and the era of massive information being sent instantly everywhere at all times making us collectively dumber as human fucking beings because of a single picture of a galaxy with some Impact text on the foreground.

tldr: A butterfly effect of ignorance fail cum pus and aids and fuck.
