Name this new computer of your
GLaDOS
As I saw the creature, I was as white as an egg. I was so scared I might crack from fear. As the humanoid began to lunge after me, I was walking on egg shells from how scared I was. It grabbed me, took me to its station, and cracked me open. The last thing I saw were my yellow insides cooked on a pan. Human nature is as evil as a rotten egg.

Apparently type in large font, very impressive. Give that processing power a run for it's money.

I'm still using my old computer. Just learning how the new one works, then over the next few days I'll customize it.

Yup.

I like it, pretty neat. It's a Dell Touchscreen with Windows 8. I have a web cam and a better mic so Skype is going to be better. I can draw on it now too, but I want a stylus instead of my finger.

Styluses are usually more precise than the finger of man. I wish modern phones were more incorporated with the choice to use one. Why do you think the DS is such an incredible console.

Interesting, I haven't really heard of people having touchscreen computers in their homes
"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."

This one is a laptop. It's very interesting because its like having a tablet and a laptop in the same machine, but without the disadvantages of either of them. I can access the computer by screen or use it as a traditional laptop with a mouse and keyboard. the screen is also fantastic. Best touch screen I've ever used.

It's fun right now, but a huge learning curve when you are use to Windows Vista. Windows 8 gets rid of the start menu and the desktop is now a "app". So its a little tricky to figure out how to find the Control Panel.

I can't remember what the Start Menu is called in this now, it shows all of the "apps" now.

Well... Considering that I don't look at porn... not really a problem.

Ugh, windows 8. I'mma make a new pc and I'm still gonna be using windows 7.
If I wanted a tablet, I would buy one instead of turning my computer into an oversized one.

Windows 8 doesn't turn your computer into a over sized tablet. It just gives you the ability to perform as both a tablet and/or a computer.

And it is so bloody fun.

EDIT: This completely solves my long dilemma of tablet vs laptop.

I'm pretty sure they also removed the windows key. Which wasn't a smart move.

What about the people that don't want the oversized tablet? It's being forced down their bloody throats.
I don't want my operating system to be changed, it was good the way it was. That's why I'm sticking to windows 7 on my new computer.

Penny Arcade describes how windows 8 works. And I don't like it one bit.

Hell Windows XP was good, so even 7 seems a bit unnecessary.

*looks down at the key board.

No, its still there. The biggest difference is that the start menu has been arranged into that tile thing. Which isn't a big deal. It's pretty simple to use, easy to manage, and totally customizable.

Hiryu wrote:What about the people that don't want the oversized tablet?

You can still use it as a computer. Nothing is being shoved down anyone's throat over this. Windows 7 is still being updated, I believe. Windows Vista is going to get updates cut off by the end of the year, from what I remember from what the store clerk told me. But you don't need a touch screen to use it, and you can still navigate it by a mouse without any problem. What I'm saying is that its cool because you don't have to look at a tablet and a computer and consider which one is the best where you can now just compromise. I'd almost say its like having a touch screen Mac with the ability to use the apps you would get for your phone or iPad.

Now my computer isn't a giant tablet like this one is: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msu ... .283204100

imho, that's pretty neat that you have the power to do that and that PCs are starting to use the solid state hard drives. Smart move, more Mac-ish meaning that those that like to upgrade and build their own computers like you and others won't have a huge option on that front. But for those that are looking for a more reliable computer that can do more things, serve more roles, well its coming. It would seem like the market is moving more and more towards that ideology of having a tablet/pc hybrid to compete with the tablet market. Who drives the market? the consumer. It's cool to have that option and that is the difference between you and I on this. I see the possibilities, the freedom and creativity of it, you see it as damning, oppressive, and forceful.

Can you convince me of any reasons why its terrible?

HA, my little cousin just got this thing, it makes me cringe.

I don't see a big problem with the introduction of Win8, from my very little experience with it, after a couple of days of messing around with it, you can still do mostly anything you would want or need to do. I'm sticking with Win7 because I don't like the panel UI.

The people at the Microsoft store where hell bent on me getting the upgraded version of that. I told them my budget was around $800 bucks, and they showed me that thing's $1,200 cousin.

Man... No.
I'm just not big on touchscreens and tablet things. I only have a cellphone with touchscreen because it was over 50% off so it was a bargain.

Also, you're the first person I met that actually liked Windows 8.
And I honestly think this tablet/pc hybrid thing is just a phase. Come Windows 9 and it will be back to what it was.
Because the windows OS cycle is always the same.

I agree with you there about window's 9 and to a degree with the window's timeline picture. Heh, Windows 98. I have a desktop that still uses it and I keep it around for Warcraft 2. Never realized how terrible of a game that was until I noticed that all the units are the same on each side, just different design.

I think the major point on it that I like is I don't have to think about getting a tablet now, and that its something new.

I'm getting a computer by this november. I'm gonna aim for the windows 8 as well. I prefer a touchscreen with a physical keyboard.

I went with this sucker. Great so far, although this is just day two with it.

the funny thing is that it is 100 bucks cheap from Microsoft then from Dell.
