Is she your favorite cause she's a good villain or cause she has big boobs?
Have you tried turn it off and on again?

I just watched final epi of Log, so excited for fall! c:

Also, stumbled across this tidbit of info: Eren's VA in Attack on Titan dub will be Bryce Papenbrook (voice of Kirito from SAO and Rin in Blue Exorcist). Here's the rest of the cast, and some trailers of the dub.

Speaking of which, I've finally started to watch attack on Titan. The only problem I have, is that its' horror moments feel too up-front about it. It's really a matter of personal preference on my part. It's like a custard pie in the face: it tastes good but it's abrupt and probably hurts your nose. The kind of horror I like, would be the one were they don't show the act on-screen but they leave evidence and character reactions and leave it up to your imagination. Anyway it's still a amazing show.

GOSH DARN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know we knew it was coming but... They released the cast list for the English dub of AoT. I haven't heard of any of these people! I honestly thought that for something like this they should just cast from the A list but these guys are all B list at best. I know it is important to let new talent take a shot at something other than a side character and there is always the chance they will surprise you but...... This seriously weakens my faith that this will be alright. I mean I looked up the actor who plays Ymir and I couldn't find reference to her having worked on anything else before this! Sigh..... I will still watch it but..... I just didn't want another repeat of how I felt with the PMMM dub.

edit: I just saw the dub of the first Levi scene. I am still no happier about this.

Her mammalian glands have nothing to do with how much I love her actually. The catgirl look doesn't hurt though.

She was just an absolute joy every second she was on screen. And it's a tad scary how much I could relate to her from some long time era of my life. Maybe I still am a bit like her... But really, I really want to see more of her that it's eating me up inside.

Wait. You'd think with something as big as Attack on Titan they'd get some big name (like ari said).

I mean like Troy Baker, Steve Blum, Jennifer Hale or Roger Craig Smith. I didn't see any of those names there.

I guess it'll sell either way so why both with the cast. Which is a terrible way to look at it by the way. But it's seem sadly true.

I'll see how it end up at least.

I know right. When I was thinking about the characters voices, often I had specific actors in mind. And they were actors that work for Funimation. I seriously question the judgment of whoever it was who decided "You know what, how about for this big name title we cast people no one has ever heard of".

I... kinda wanna see it.
As I saw the creature, I was as white as an egg. I was so scared I might crack from fear. As the humanoid began to lunge after me, I was walking on egg shells from how scared I was. It grabbed me, took me to its station, and cracked me open. The last thing I saw were my yellow insides cooked on a pan. Human nature is as evil as a rotten egg.

"Japan's Equivalent of The Walking Dead."

: |

Really? Really???

I imagine that being said in a fan parody trailer, not an official one. It's just so silly-sounding to be making that comparison. : x

It makes sense on paper to compare the two... but in practice, yeah, it does sound silly to say.

It kind of is but if they are trying to draw in a crowd that doesn't usually watch anime by making a statement like that, it just sounds silly.

It would've been better to compare it GoT imo.
I normally use that comparison, not because of the story, but because of the relative feeling the respective audiences have.

Like, the thing is, it comes across as the dubbing company not having that much faith in the anime doing well by its own merits, to have to rely on making a comparison to a popular Western show in order to draw in a crowd. It's like if they said, "Hey, ya know that one really popular Western show that everyone likes right now? Well this anime is just like that, so please check it out!" That's something you would tell a non-anime-watching friend to try to convince them to give your favorite anime a chance, or again, something you'd jokingly say as part of a fanmade parody trailer for the anime. Which is why it comes across as silly-sounding to me. :0

What's the hate on the SnK dub? I'm actually pretty pleased. Mikasa sounds a bit older, but whatever it goes along with Mama Mikasa. Arwin is the only one I'm displeased with.

Whoa, wait. Hold the phone. Stuff is defending a dub?

That's rather unexpected.

We didn't exactly say the dub is bad, we're only saying how silly it is to compare AoT to The Walking Dead.

Oh don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that, I'm just so used to blind fan drones writting off dubs regardless of quality for no other reason than it's a dub.

It's just jaring to not be the only one trying to stand up for dubs.

Why do people hate dubs? Is it so they think they're more Japanese by blindly hating English?

I just hate bad voice acting. I haven't seen some anime(sub) because I couldn't sit through the horrid voice acting. Majority of dubs have bad voice acting.

You're mostly right. Although dubs have been getting better as the audience has grown. With growth comes a higher demand of quality control as well as more products.

Just remember a lot of the original Japanese VO work is considered mediocre to them. It just sounds natural to us since it comes from that country and that's how we perceive it. I guess it really isn't a good argument if you like and think it sounds better regardless. It's just funny how much we think the same, just with a sort of role reversal.

The Mad Doctor wrote:Why do people hate dubs? Is it so they think they're more Japanese by blindly hating English?

Basically. Well for the most part. There are legit complaints, but if you look for them you wouldn't have to look to hard to find Japanaphiles who think like that.

I remember reading one comment form one asshole who tough dubs shouldn't exist as they are audience broadening tools that bring in an audience that generally ruin the product just because they aren't aware or into the original product. And I'm like: "No shit, how do you think you got into anime you fucking pillock".
