From Games Workshop comes the tabletop strategy wargame / hobby.

Like any other Games Workshop wargames, like Warhammer, Lord of the Rings. Warhammer 40,000 is a game hobby where you paint and assemble minutures, to make an army.

Whether the armies are Space Marines, Black Templars, Catachans, Imperial Guards, Chaos Space Marines, Tau or Necrons.

I started the assembling of an army with my two brothers back in 1998 but still have not yet understood their rules considering their rulebooks are thick, I am considering starting up again because from what I was told about the Warhammer 40, 000 their stories are very complex and interesting.

There have been rumors that there might be a Warhammer 40, 000 movie comming eventually to cinemas.

I created this thread so we can talk about the Warhammer 40, 000 stories which have been made, if anyone had questions to ask others about painting the models and making a playing table with terrain or any other questions, (I could ask my brothers, they seem to know a lot. I am still learning of the stories) Just go wild..

Well Warhammer is about one of the most best things that ever happened, appearing in books, miniatures and video games.

Well I have been thinking, what is your favourite race in Warhammer?

It's been a long time since I played the game with my brothers.
But what I have heard from them, Jeremy likes the Tau and I think Wade likes Chaos Marines and Dark Elder. I'm not sure. Though he loves the game and hobby.
We are sort of planning to start Lord of the Rings as a threesome.

Sounds like the Necrons. Or, to a certain extent, Chaos.

I really love me some 40K, specifically IG and SM. Unfortunately, the price is a bit too high for me.

Yes, unfortunately playing and collecting Games Workshop wargames does come at a price.

There are many different Warhammer/40K video games.

The FPS is Firewarrior, where you (Unsurprisingly) take the role of a Tau Firewarrior.

The best one however is the RTS Dawn Of War.

NOW FOR A SHORT REVIEW OF IT!

Several things differentiate it from other RTSs, the biggest being how instead of building 1 "unit" you instead build a squad. Each squad can be reinforced with extra men to until it's at its max, as well as specialising with special weapons.

For example, a basic Space Marine squad (Possibly the best infantry, easily the most versatile) comes with 5 (?) men equipped with bolters. They can then be upgraded to 8 (?) men, with up to four special weapons (Rockets, Lasgun, Plasma Gun, Heavy Bolter) and maybe a commander (He does more than a bit of extra damage). Once researched squads can also use extra equipment such as Frag Grenades, which scatter and enemy squad (Or part of it, depending where it's thrown).

Squads don't work as one "unit" however, as each member has their own health. They do move and (Usually) attack as one unit. Attacking doesn't work as one big "attack" however, rather each member firing and attacking a member of the opposing squad. Much like the tabletop game, really.

Another attribute derived from the tabletop game is Morale. Each squad has a morale amount which works like health. Once it reaches zero the squad won't die however, but they will become an extremely less efficient fighting force, missing more and even running away at times. This is where commanders come in useful, as each squad (Standard SM) can be equipped with one. Sergeants (SM Commanders) can "Rally" which restores squad morale (But has a cooldown time).

Squads can also be reinforced on the spot. This means that, for instance, you start with a nine man squad (8 Marines, 1 Sergeant) and in a scuffle you lose three. While still fighting it is possible to add those lost units (Over time) to your squad. This creates a valid strategy to run a "regroup". As members with special weapons die, the squad also loses the special weapon. This means that if you've a squad of 4 rocket soldiers and they die from close combat you can run, replace and equip them with different weapons (A Plasma Gun or Heavy Bolter in this case).

There's more but the infantry side to it is my favourite, as that is where it and the tabletop game both shine, in my opinion.

I played Space Marines, and now play Imperial Guard, because:

Lots of meatshil... er, Men.
Lots of heavy weapons
Lots of Special Weapons
Lots of bullet spong... I mean men.
Lots of Tanks
Lots of GOOD tanks
And lots of Conscripts.
And of course, commissars.

Wait.... Did I mention lots of men? lol

You can kill one.
You can kill two.
You can kill three, or four, or HELL, even a dozen.
For all I care, you can kill thirty.
But.
You.
Can't.
Kill.
Them.
All.

Ahhhh, disposable minions, is there anything they can't solve?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
As far as stories go, I really like the Last Chancers series by Gav Thorpe, and the Horus series by multiplle authors.

Oh yeah, and Eldar Suck.
>.>
<.<
>.>
...
ELDAR SUCK!
