That guy was using 3d Studio Max...but it looks like he had alot of self made stuff in there so....

Its a.) the shading and b.) the edges on his tend to blur a little especially when they're in the way of light or something. Yours are alot cleaner.

Shading: yeah... I'm still working on finding the "perfect" shading technique in LW.

He also does DOF on the charcters, which a true anime wouldn't do. (I fake DOF by blurring characters/ background uniformly, like a true anime would do.)
