More info, dude.... What kinda cam ya got and what kind of program do you use? It should be fairly simple...

Fri Jan 17, 2003 1:05 am

Are you making it update on a website you run off your own server, or one on a seperate server?

Fri Jan 17, 2003 1:18 am

Fuck, I don't know, that's why I'm asking. Just, how is it done.

The magic ninjas....

But yes they must know this. What kind of cam, what software you running etc etc.

Oh :dj: got my cam set up now

Fri Jan 17, 2003 1:00 pm

Well, you take a picture with the webcam, then put it up on a website...

Name the pic cam.jpg or something, so when you update it, you save another cam.jpg and overwrite the old file.

Fri Jan 17, 2003 1:08 pm

No, thats the wimps way. Real men have it update automatically.

Layne, all I can tell you is that your web cam should have come with a software package that would act as a cheap webserver on your computer. Then when you hook your webcam up it will dump an updated picture ever so many seconds (30?) to a directory on your computer like "c:program fileswebcamserverimages"

That's for live cams tho. I think he's talking about stuff like this:

(anyone wanna sign up?)

Fri Jan 17, 2003 4:31 pm

I'll sign up for the cam pages.

And yeah..I'd setup up auto update...but I like to add text to my pictures, get pictures that mean stuff, and make sure I'm not naked when the camera takes the picture.

Fri Jan 17, 2003 5:24 pm

No, I'm talking about a live cam.

Ok, um, how exaclty dose a server work from my computer?

Fri Jan 17, 2003 6:22 pm

Well, the cam software creates a directory on your HD that it dumps the image from the cam in, and overwrites it with a new one every 30 seconds or so.

Then the computer opens a port and allows people to access the picture in that directory.

They don't actually go 'into' your computer and look around, it just displays it like a picture on a website or in a signature somewhere.

Yeah yeah, I know this, but how do I get the site to get the picture from my computer?

Sat Jan 18, 2003 1:26 am

Like I said, the cam software package should include some sort of server program or something like that.
