I love Snafu. I've been coming here for a while now, and during that time I've had some questions that's been bothering me.

One: I've noticed that some of the comic in the top menu don't update very often or never, What's up with that?

Two: How does one get to be in the top menu?

One: Just don't update often. Sometimes there's issues that prevent the artist/writers to update it, sometimes it's just a matter of loss of interest in writing the comic.

Two: I guess you'd have to have a decent webcomic and talk to Dave about adding it? No guarantee he responds though.

1: depends on the artist different artist have different update schedules. Some of the artists have full time jobs.

2: be a good artist, have a full set of comics already done, be a known quantity. Your art is good enough. You have a reasonable amount of updates. But it should be noted that to move to snafu you are going to give up your ad revenue and you will probly have to move your shop to shark robot. I don't know if your story is any good. But I may check it out when I get home.

You're a comic book artist?

Hm...looks interesting. Sounds as If you want some recognition here. Well then, first thing's first, welcome to the forums. I'm at the "Initiate" panel so far.

Maybe we can help him by taking a look at his comic, kinda like what zeph said at some part of his post.

EDIT: Do you know what Akihabara@deep is? I notice an otaku character studders like on of the main characters from the Japanese drama.

Recognition is nice, yes, but that's not the reason I was asking. I really am curious.
Also, I'm not the artist, I'm the writer.

I did forget a third question though.

How do the comics like Powerpuff and Grim, get away with using copyrighted characters?

One last thing. Rosso, sorry but I've never even heard of Akihabara@deep

Companies don't feel the need to fill lawsuits on fan-comics, as long as the artist doesn't earn considerable amounts of money using them, which Bleeedman(Powerpuff/Grim guy) doesn't do.

Parody is legal and the definition is grey enough and they are small enough not to be worth fighting a case they might lose.

Also I think this constitutes derivative work and so it becomes a new copyright by itself.

I've always seen Snafu like more of a hangout for webcomic and artist fans. Alex Pardee, the famous artist, sometimes comes here and gives us updates on his life. Bleedman keeps the site's comic updates alive, so does the guy who makes the league.

Okay, I see. That make sense. I'm glad because I love this site and the comics.
Thanks

Because its not published and so there is no money going into it or out.

But grim tales: After Birth is going to get published so Griddles and Dave are in a sticky situation!

A good lawyer would suggest that it is a both a parody of several works and a derivative work suggesting that it deserves a copyright under it's own merit. Similar to how if you with your own hand paint a picture of the Mona Lisa while standing in front the original for reference and put a mustache on your copy it is a separate and distinct work of art.

Bleedman is technically what, Filipino? He's not a US citizen.

There isn't copyright laws in the Philippines. I think we all know that by now, but we do also know that the owners of the characters in PPGD and Grim Tales like his comics too.

But Dave is still fair game.
