I thought it was odd last week when it rained and all the ice and snow melted.

It's entertaining because some Fox news channel had a European scientist on using the early blizzards as evidence his 'this will be a cold winter in the first of many colder winters' claim.

That's somewhat plausible. This was in the link i gave earlier, and shows that European winters' variability outweighs any recent decades-scale trends. In all likelihood, there will be relatively cold winters in the future.

Or perhaps he's referring to a slowdown of the Gulf Stream, which keeps Europe significantly warmer than it would be based on its latitude alone. Got a link?

God, Atheists like those are more annoying than door-to-door Jehovah's Witnesses. At least the JWs are something resembling polite typically.

Rofl I can't even watch that, everytime either of them tries to make a point the other pops in with something else in the middle of the other's sentence.

That's Bill O'Reilly for you. And Cavuto too. Beck is more playing random clips and crying.

I'm tired and sad, I'm allowed to make generalizations about Conservative propaganda.

Saw somewhere Obama is going to have an interview with O'Reily on Superbowl Sunday. Like that couldn't go badly.

A smart guy like Obama might have some flashcards with his comebacks on them. Assholes can't drown out text.

That GISS is out of sync in terms of temperature. (Cited articles are here and here.)

On a side note, this amuses me. I particularly like the following comment:

Quote:
Well, by paying my taxes I have funded the experts at GISS to [record the temperature]. They work for me (and you) and that gives us the right and duty to comment on their work. And, it is not the temperature record that I doubt (that much) but the fact the same 1934 data record, in hand from before I was born, can be analyzed and re-analyzed seven times to get swings 20% to 30% of what they claim to be measuring. And the same 1998 record taken by modern instruments a bit over a decade ago, is also subject to even larger swings as they repeatedly analyze it. If your tailor made you a tie that was 20% too short, along with a shirt that was 30% too long, would you trust him to do a whole suit?

Northern Virginia it is pretty ridiculous. Not as bad as San Fransisco or New York but still pretty high.

I knew the east was screwed up. I know why since then why my environment is nothing like any of those.

Glad to be living here in the West. But all this stuff I see here kind of freaks me out. The Atheist Scam claim, the Temperature analysis, just...woah.

Apparently the ADHD epidemic is also heavily focused towards the easy coast. Just to add one more level of screwed up.

I have a hypothesis on ADHD. My conjecture is that while there is an increase because people are looking for it and there is a higher chance of detection, I think that ADHD's root cause is the amount of different information we make our children look at in the course of their development. IE There is significantly more stimuli coming from computers television and the like now and the speed at which they change 2 minute you tube videos, 100s of television channels, versus a radio some tapes and 6 television channels in our parents day. By increasing the amount of ways people can gain information and entertain themselves I believe that causes the brain to compensate for the increased demand for differentiation during development.

No, they just over diagnose the shit out of it. What kind of kid wants to pay attention in school that bad, anyway?

Some of that perhaps, but there are more legitamate cases of ADHD than bogus ones, and the over-diagnoses of children was a real problem in the 90s, but their have been changes made in the diagnoses guidelines used to check for ADHD. These changes have made diagnoses more accurate, and with a more accurate diagnoses it has shown about %33 rate of over-diagnosis from the 90s, although there are several sources and studies that go anywhere from 10-100 percent so take that for what you will. There is still over diagnosis but it is less than it used to be.

A good catch there zeph, perhaps this will interest you though it's not entirely focused on ADHD... only partly.

It's still interesting information either way. This video puts up some good points while not causing any argument mostly. It's true that our minds deteriorate overtime when we growup and the fact that we're organized like factories (how true! LOL). Parents would tell their children to put their goddamn video games down when we can't. I agree with you zeph on the last sentence of your post. Perhaps we can use this stimuli to provide a much better education experience.

In fact, there was a part in Super Size Me where PE had a special machine in which you play a motorcycle game and the only way to move that cycle is to move your legs and you steer with the exercise machine's handlebars. Although it may not be relevant, I overheard some brief conversations on how there were some kids including those in the conversations their interest in Discovery Channel's programs, and that can be a big benefit for Science; If we can blow things up while using the Scientific and Mathematical equations we learn in the classroom, why not? Reading already uses the media to educate children on Shakespeare; I saw a Macbeth movie this week that is modernized like the Leonardo Di Caprio Romeo and Juliet, but ironically, it was the tape version of Macbeth that people in the classroom liked.

Our education experiences may vary, this was all based on my environment. How much of us in the forums live in the west by the way?
