Christmas plans/presents?

Postby PunkyChipsAhoy » Wed Dec 01, 2010 12:15 pm

I'm curious what you guys in the SNAFU forum are planning for Christmas. You know things like
-gifts you're planning on getting yourself or receiving.
-gifts you're buying
-Christmas trip/escapade.
-Do you even celebrate it anymore?
-Funny story

Come sit on Santa Jesus' lap and tell him.

Sometimes I go with my family to see the Christmas story. I'll probably fly back to Colorado after New Years to visit family.

probably going to do what we do every year: go to my aunt's house for christmas eve. probably see my dad during the day on Christmas, spend time with the family on my step-dad's side on Christmas night.

I have no idea what to get anybody. haven't been filled in on what everyone wants. all I'm really asking for is a Kindle, but I'll probably end up getting some DVD's off of my amazon wish list instead which is fine.

I don't ever ask for gifts, but my parents always buy us something they guess we want.

Last christmas they got me a shitload of things and a Wii.

Because I value practicality over surprise, I hand-selected 6 games on a buy2/get1 free sale. They were Super Mario Galaxy 2, The Sims2 set, God of War, and Killer7. The very next day, I replaced Quinton-Tarantino-on-LCD with the Special Edition of Devil May Cry 3: Dante's awakening because at least DMC doesn't force me along rails.

I'm going to take my dad to see Tron Legacy while Mom can replace that carridge lamp with the broken wheels.

I got my girlfriend a wind chime of a fairy sitting atop a dragon playing a harp. I remember she pointed it out a few months ago so I knew she liked it.

I remember we used to sell many fairies with dragon figurines/incense burners and knick knacks in earthbound.

So when I still worked there I used to always get people gifts from my store unless they specified that they wanted cash.

I remember getting this punk band friend of mine a salt lamp with my 50% off, and when I brought it over he was all "dude no one brought me nothing and this is so fucking epic thank you"

and then we all played board games with the lamp being the only source of light.

You need to get a better job. You've been doing that crap job for a while now. You should move into wholesale. Try to get a job with one of your suppliers. Suppliars generally have better hours and working conditions. Although the warehouses generally smell funky and do not look pretty.

It's just a train ride away. You should ask your folks to buy you a train ticket for a week. Ask another part of your family for a 100 euros. Then maybe a hotel room. When you combo that up you can have a really bitching week.

I have one in my room. The downside to them is that they require a specific lightbulb that you can pretty much only find in walmart and my store. And I haven't replaced it for like a whole semester now.

Hmm.

I plan to fly out to visit my mother for about a week before Christmas. We've got several states between us, so I can only fly out when grad school permits.

I plan to get a new television for my little brother (his current big-screen is on the verge of dying after, oh, well over thirteen years of service). I've gotten some Japanese cookbooks for my father (who loves cooking, and was stationed in Japan during his stint in the military). I've also bought a .22 Ruger rifle for my brother's Colombian friend (our families are quite close), so now he and my brother will have a matching set of rifles. I'll be able to take them to the shooting range for practice (amidst cries of 'you've got the best brother ever' from the Colombian and I'll just LOL because I'll have predicted it because he's that kind of guy).

Still thinking about what to get for other people.

For Christmas I'll be on a carrier in the middle of the Pacific. I'm getting a Droid 2 phone.

I don't have anything special planned this Christmas, just a regular family get-together. I have 4 days off including the weekend so that's okay. For some reason I want an ipad. I think the apple advertising has me hypnotized or something. I'll probably end up buying one for myself.

My dad got an iPad from BP. It's sick. But it literally is a bigger, more powerful looking iPhone.

My girlfriend and her family celebrate on Christmas Eve, so I'll be there on Christmas eve to exchange gifts and such, after a christmas party at my neighbour's house. Christmas day just at home with my family and opening gifts and stuff. Then go to my dad's Christmas night and on Boxing day and go to see my paternal grandparents and open gifts from them and my dad.

I'm getting my girlfriend a cute snowglobe, because she mentioned wanting one, the BBC production of Jane Eyre which is one of her favourite books, and then a nice handwritten card.
"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."
