Thanksgiving is a North American holiday where families come together to eat a big feast (with turkey typically being the main course) and be thankful for all they have (like food and each other, obviously). It's the second Monday of October in Canada, but the fourth Thursday of November in the U.S.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving

Canada should be like us, then the last week of the last three months of the year each have a holiday. Isn't that neat?

Native Americans certainly don't have anything to be thankful for, that's for sure.

Because people celebrate holidays for religious, not cultural, reasons.

Because the US is just full of culture.

Anyways I just made a 10lb turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole for this year.

That comment doesn't even make sense. Culture is the customs of people. You can't have people and not have culture. If you're trying to refer to the adjective, then that means you think people celebrate Thanksgiving for religious reasons. Uh...which is also wrong...

So, that was fun.

Culture is built up over a very long time in a people, America doesn't really have one as it has been constantly changing and expanding since it was conceived.

The Thanksgiving we celebrate is the spiritual successor to the original Thanksgiving... as that holiday was pretty much dead.

The fact we celebrate a holiday is "culture." Culture isn't something fancy and civilized, it's simply the customs of people. If you have people, you have customs, you have culture... It's not complicated.

And that's all I was saying: most people don't celebrate holidays for religious reasons, but because it's a custom of the country we live in...our culture.

and the US has a culture that revolves around shopping, sports, and watching films. And I'll be damned if I don't prefer it over my culture.
