Well. What's likely to happen is a couple representatives of the cartels will offer her terms (also known as threaten her) If she is smart and pragmatic about the situation she will negotiate better terms. She can stand up to them if she wants but she'll likely be raped and murdered.

If I were mayor or chief of police or whatever authority figureI would pick the strongest cartel. And tell them. I won't come down on you for drugs, you can smuggle as much as you want through here, but. No violence, no slavery, and keep clear of people under 18. If one of your men is causing problems and we catch him. We hand him over to you to make an example of. Keep things quiet and we'll leave you alone. That's about the best she could do.

Since the Attorney General of Chihuahua reported this on Wednesday, I don't think its the same girl as the one who became the police chief.

She is better off with a shotgun. For self defense a shotgun is almost always a better choice. It allows for errors in accuracy do to adrenalin. It is intimidating and will drop a large individual high on cocaine. Mossberg is a reliable choice, although I have heard Beretta shotguns are pretty good for hunting geese. While what you say is certainly a cool option. It is easily the least accurate and requires the most training. One pistol requires a lot of time for accuracy. Two at once in a high stress situation is even worst. The pistol only wins in portability and concealability.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only person posting news about the drug war in Mexico. Well, the only way for this woman to stay alive is to work with the cartels; by work with the cartels I mean that she will keep away from all cartel business and not ask for anything in return. It's sad to say, but when the bad guys have all the power, there's no such thing as negotiating. Fighting back is not much of an option either; when it comes to cartel hits, most of the time the victim doesn't know what's what until the car is being filled with bullets.

There is always room for negotiation even when they hold all of the cards. Always remember criminals are generally stupid. They don't know all of the cards that you hold in her case she doesn't hold jack other than she has 10 or 15 people working with her and some body guards. If she negotiates from a position of strength she can get concessions out of the cartels and pretend she is giving up things in return when the reality of the situation is that anything she gets out of the cartels is a bonus. It is an incredibly useful skill to learn how to negotiate when you don't have squat, and the person you are negotiating with has the leverage. There will be a time when you will have to do something like this with an employer. It is almost guaranteed.

Now, I know most criminals are short sighted (because they weren't smart enough to extort money through legal channels), but the point here is that they've got manpower and guns. They also have lots of money to make certain officials turn a blind eye. They don't need a genius plan.

In the yahoo article originally stated, that woman wants to make more events for young people, or something, using "values and principals" instead of trying to stop them. I'd be willing to guess that she wants people to take to her example and try to lower the demand for the drugs, however the drugs to to the US, so I don't think it'll solve anything.
