You can, but why would you want to do it?

Here is a forum asking a similar question with an answer

So, what do people use for firewalls these days anyways? Or is the Windows 7 firewall actually adequate?

I remember Yoshi mentioning something to that extent, so I'm curious if it's still accurate.

Most people use their routers firewall and the default windows 7 firewall, which isn't bad. It isn't going to offer maximum security but unless you are running a server or webpage you are not likely to be targeted in a way that a firewall will protect you, and router firewalls are generally pretty good as long as you have changed your default router password. Your best protection is limiting script access to your computer (No Script) and having a backup ready to protect against drive by downloads and the like.

So I recently purchased parts from newegg (that my friend picked out) and made a new computer with them.
Everything runs great, nice and fast. But. When I go to play games, I can get from 5 to 30 minutes of gameplay, and then it crashes. No blue screen, everything just freezes and I'm forced to hard shut down (or whatever you call it)
All of my drivers are up to date, directx and the shit. My friend's friend, another tech genious, says it might be something with my memory. I know theres a lot of knowledgeable techies on snafu, so I figure I ask here too.

My computer contains:
ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB3 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL
Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX
XFX HD-687A-ZDFC Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
CORSAIR CWCH50-1 High Performance CPU Cooler
CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

(Product names copied right off of newegg, for my convenience.)

could be a bad ram stick, check the temp after it crashes and see if it is overheating.

I have a program called SpeedFan that monitors temperatures, and I kept it up as I ran Guild Wars one time. When it froze, the temperatures showing on SpeedFan were all in the high 30's/ low 40's, which I'm pretty sure is the normal recommended temperature in Celsius.

Is that showing accurate temperatures? Can I do it another way?

that's probably an accurate temperature reading. Run a test on your ram and your video card. If I remember correctly I used a program called memscope last time I had a problem with a bad memory stick, but since that is the most likely culprit check it out or other ram testing software. For video card run some heavy benchmarking software and see if it glitches.

Someone recommended the SiSoftware thing to run diagnostics and stuff. And I also ran Windows Memory Diagnostics

Apparently both came clean, but I'm not sure I was looking at the right stuff on SiSoftware

Sorry for double post.
Reading up on some website here: (http://www.playtool.com/pages/troublesh ... intro.html) I took it upon myself to Underclock my video card. Or at least I think I did.
My game time was boosted from 30 to 50 minutes, but then I still get the typical freeze. Game performance was basically the same.

Are there other things I should underclock? How could I go about it?

hrmmmm. If you have two ram sticks try pulling 1 and playing the game. If it still fucks up put the other ram stick in the different DIMM slot and try running it again if it still fucks up I'm out of ideas.

Try to get it warrantied. Newegg is the best if it is within 30 days. If not the manufacturer will get it back to you eventually.

For some reason, none of my torrents are starting. They get stuck at 0.0%, even with seeders.

Edit: Seemed to be a problem with BitTorrent. Downloaded uTorrent and it works fine.

You probably use a too old version of a client, that's being blocked. Download and install the newest version of utorrent, see if that helps.

Told ya.

I had forgotten that I had posted that, since I don't come around anymore. I was actually using the latest BitTorrent.
