I don't really post here that much, but I know a few of you well enough to ask this of you.
Could you guys do me a huge favor? If you have a Facebook, could you go and like this girl's picture on this page? She's a close friend of my brother's, and got into an accident and has a spinal cord injury. If you could just like the picture, it would mean loads to me, and her family.
he was one of the vets when i joined. back when this forum was more heavily populated, nix was well liked. he was overly cynical at times but he had a decent sense of humour. his comic sucked though, especially when he changed artist.

Yeah. Back when ComradeF was around too. If I recall it was an argument between Nix and ComradeF that made ComradeF up and leave, deleting all his posts with him.

And then Nix disappeared.
Yes, although the way you describe it, makes it sound like Nix left almost immediately after, which is not the case. He stuck around for roughly 1.5 years after that.
The arguement with ComradeF started with Smaug describing a story about how a girl in his college class wrote a paper describing how either communism or socialism (I think Smaug said communism though the story makes more sense if it was socialism) is great because it treats all people equally. Her teacher said that the paper deserves an A, but since it "convinced him" to treat all people equally he gave her a C. ComradeF thought the teacher acted like a douche, while Nix thought it was hilarious. The arguement got worse and worse, until Nix accused ComradeF of becoming arrogant due to his position as Admin, so ComradeF deleted all his posts and stopped posting, except in the Mod section and in a special invisible section of the forums that he created for himself and close friends (though I believe that section existed before the arguement).
Dunno if that invisible section is still around since I could never access it. Only knew from Spike and Jay that it existed.
Quoting Gray in your signature was helpful to deciphering what was going on here.
And the teacher doing that is funny, especially if the student rages over what should be an obvious joke, but it was pretty dumb to have that taught as what Communism actually is. My middle/high school teachers all made the same joke when communism came up in social studies. It might be a joke to them but plenty of the students took it seriously.
I once spent a whole class period making paper.. somethings for an exercise in Communism, and the teacher was acting like a dictator, treating all the girls poorly, and giving us all equal grades. There was an aura of fun to it but the lesson was serious in that Communism is just about blindly treating everyone the same (except for the women who you harass like drunken Russians) and that it's stupid. You can disagree with communism quite easily and legitimately but I can't believe that was the lesson. Still a very fun class period though.
Vegedus wrote:Wow. That sounds like a super trivial and petty thing to argue and quit a forum over.
Well on paper it does, but that was just the starting point of that specific arguement. Once it did get heated it really wasn't about that anymore. It got pretty personal. I liked/like ComradeF just putting that out there.
I also agree with Whatis that it was probably the last straw in something bigger.
