I think I took it way too far on making things look dirty this time. Especially the characters. They're too washed out. Oh well every comic is an experiment and hopefully next time I'll get the right mix.
So I decided to look out into the online world and see what other people were saying about Gear's of War. Everything looks like a favorable review even though everyone seems to be hitting the same walls I have in the game. But one quote is UNFORGIVABLE from the IGN review
"the rich story of planet Sera holds its own with the likes of Hyrule"
I didn't know the beautifuly orchestrated saga of Zelda could be compared to the plot line of a BAD Vin Diesel movie. Guess I was wrong. FUCK THAT REVIEWER. Which sucks because besides that I basically agree with everything he said. The game does have a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it it's quite fluid and very fun to control. I especially agree with his quote
"Versus is a one-trick pony, consisting of a team deathmatch with three basic variations"
That's definately true.
"The Insane difficulty level gives Gears legs months after you've finished the relatively-short campaign"
no, the game is just short. Making the enemies tougher to kill is not longevity in gameplay time. LAME.
Last quote from a different IGN reviewer:
"The maximum of eight players split into two teams may be a small number for a modern online shooter, but it works well to keep the action going, especially when your first death means you're out of the game. The rounds move quickly and you never feel like you're just waiting around for the game to end"
I couldn't disagree more. Even just playing four player I immediately felt bored the second I died. If we had double that amount and I had to wait for even more people to die I do believe I would return the game to the store THAT DAY. It's ridiculous that there isn't a respawn all out timed death match mode. I can't get over how SHALLOW this game's multiplayer experience AND single player experience is.
I dunno... this trailer basically bums me out big time. It makes it look more than ever like a total mess to me. Sandman being his dad's killer? That makes the whole start of the first movie unimportant and trite... and lame. Plus it looks like all three villians play a major part. Which turns it into a fucking BATMAN and Robin movie. And some of the clips they showed looked terrible and lame. Spider-Man and MJ on a huge spider-web for instance. OR when they got lowered to the ground on said web. And all of the CG in the preview looked cartoony and fake. Far more so than the last one or even the first one for that matter. I can't imagine how they got WORSE at it after years of technological development and PRACTICE on the first two movies... It still looks like a "fun" watch but now I'm really really worried.
Ok so I played Gear's of war for a tiny tiny bit today and nearly went through the whole game... Yeah, this game isn't a keeper, it's a rental. The one player/co-op is a lot of fun don't get me wrong and the game play is great. But it feels very very shallow and short. There aren't a lot of guns or variety of guns for that matter. Honestly the only even "interesting" gun in the whole game was the satelite gun.
Then the thing that bummed me out for all time on Gears of War is the multiplayer. We system linked the game today and played a four player match. The game is RETARDED multiplayer. The setup process is rigid and a pain to tweak even the most simple settings. Not to mention there are very few option you have control of to begin with. The character selecting is really pourly planned out with a tiny grey scale headshot of each character as the only way of picking. Nevermind that ALL the characters look basically the same to begin with. But what makes the multiplayer not only boring but damn near unplayable is there is ZERO ability to tweak/ranomize the game so the same person doesn't win EVERYTIME. No handicapes, no random items, no team randomization, no spawn point randomization, no bots, no radar, no nothing. Each Multiplayer map turns into the EXACT same fucking thing as the last time you played nearly immediatly. So quite literally once you've played through each map maybe 3 times with your friends you're done. There is nothing left that will change the gameplay enough from the last time you played the map to keep it interesting.
So honestly it's worth a rental to play through the single player once and it will only take a day if you want it to. And maybe a day to play multiplayer. But it's not worth your time past that.
So Best game ever? Possibly. Anyhow finally a game on the Xbox 360 that makes it worthwhile to have an Xbox 360. Before Dead Rising was fun but it just wasn't enough. Now I am happy. So much fun. And I suck at it oh so badly.
I can't believe this but This Comic Sucks is officially over. Wayne has been a long time personal online friend and it kills me to see him go. On top of that with Mac Hall calling it quits in it's curent form I've lost two of my favorite comics of all time in a way too short period of time. I am sad.
I don't know why I assumed this but I did. I assumed that everyone on the entire internet has already seen this image:
It's the original MIME that's been floating around for a LONG time and it's what the comic is paying homage to. I didn't make up the punch line and neither did Chugworth. I've been e-mailed and called a hack of Chugworth and that's not true. the truth is we're BOTH hacks of a random internet funny that I assumed was more commone knowledge than it is. But yeah That's where it came from.
Takun from the forums recently got a Tatoo of our popular "Just a Nobody" T-shirt. I've been sitting on this picture for awhile wanting to put it on our store website Shark Robot. But I'm too dumb to mess with php stuff at the moment so I thought I 'd just put it up here to show people for now.
